Brazilian layman to research the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises

ROME — Brazilian layman Bruno Hermes de Oliveira Santos intends to study the process of subjectivation in the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius among lay people.

“My research will have a socio-anthropological approach in the hope of giving new insights about the religious phenomenon in contemporary lay society,” he said.

The 29-year-old is working on his doctoral research at the Pontifical Gregorian University’s Ignatian Spirituality Centre in Rome.

The Faculty of Missiology of the Gregorian University Rome has started a Renewal Program for Missionaries in English which is a one-semester program that begins in February 2020 and ends in June 2020. The primary intention of the Faculty is to offer a program for English speaking Christians around the world who are working in the vineyard of the Lord and who are seeking an on-going formation in regard to mission studies that tackle various issues that face the missionary today. The courses, seminars, and workshops that are offered, while being contextual in approach, remain rooted in the doctrine of the Catholic Faith guided by the Magisterium, Papal documents and other important documents of the Church. The course could be very helpful for Christians working as Catechists, Eucharistic Ministers, for those involved in Christian education, interreligious dialogue, issues involving eco-human justice, etc. The course ends with a pilgrimage to Jerusalem to help the students receive a missionary formation at a different yet radical level.

New West Virginia bishop addresses scandals head-on at installation Mass

“My friends, the ‘people walked in darkness’ and ‘dwelt in the land of gloom’. Those words of Isaiah, referring to enemy armies oppressing the kingdom of Israel, are an apt description for how many Catholics in this country have felt over the past year and how many West Virginia Catholics have felt for even longer,” Brennan said on Thursday, Aug. 22 at his installation Mass. (His installation homily can be read HERE.)
