Communication Chair's Message

It's snowing in the mountains, and STOKE IS HIGH. Get ready for the impending ski season. We'll be hosting a ski film night in October, come out, meet some friends, and get ready for the season.

There's still time to run in our election! Contributing via the board is a great way to help the section out. See later in this email, or contact elections@accedmonton.ca for details (note: I'm on the election committee, so we'll be in touch). The dates have been updated, so there is still time to get nominated, or update your details to vote in the election!

It looks like everyone has had a great summer, one awesome development has been everyone posting trip reports in our facebook group. If you want to see what the membership is up to, look no further!

Sadly the September monthly meeting has been cancelled. But I'll look forward to seeing you all out in October for both the monthly meeting, and the ski film night!

See you in the hills!

Subsidies for Section Volunteers and Trip Leaders!

This year we are continuing to support our volunteers through the Volunteer Subsidy program. This program provides significant support for ongoing technical and leadership development of Edmonton Section volunteers. If you volunteered in town, instructed, or put on trips since October last year, you are likely eligible for a subsidy towards any courses taken over the same period, and/or gear discounts. All volunteers (trip leaders, coleaders, course helpers, in-town volunteers, etc) are encouraged to apply by completing the form found here (accedmonton.ca/course-subsidy-policy)and emailing it to volunteering@accedmonton.ca before October 1. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask!

Here are the highlights:

  • Increased total funding for 2019/2019 season

  • Increased funding for “core” courses like first aid, avalanche skills training, high-angle rope rescue for rock and ice, and glacier travel/crevasse rescue.

  • Subsidies for all other instructional courses taught by a certified provider or guide

  • Option to apply for gift cards for gear at Track and Trail

Volunteer Award Nominations

Volunteers are the heart and soul of the Alpine Club of Canada. Season to season, day in and day out for over a century, our volunteers run the sections, write articles, lead trips, oversee in-town events, and demonstrate their commitment to the club. The ACC Volunteer Awards are one small way that we hope to show them our appreciation. Please consider nominating a volunteer that has made a difference in your Club experience! For a description of all awards and to fill out a nomination form, please visit alpineclubofcanada.ca. Please contact volunteering@accedmonton.ca to let us know if you are nominating someone, if you have questions, or could use some help! Nominations are due Dec. 31.
