Winona's Healthy Habits: Yoga with Kara Eggers
Kara Eggers, a Winonan for 11 years, found that regular yoga practice positively impacts her overall well-being.  She turned her healthy habit into a new downtown business called Sage Winona with her massage therapist wife, Jess Eggers.

Why did you start doing yoga?  I started doing yoga because I was stressed at work. I needed to slow down and take a step back. Yoga helped me refocus and not make a big deal out of small issues.

How did you become a yoga instructor?  It was kind of an accident. I took a class to teach beginners yoga because I was having a hard time in normal classes. Modification weren’t right for me because I was extremely inflexible. I would try to imitate the instructor and end up stressing a muscle. I needed to learn how the pose should feel in order to do the poses properly.

Why did you decide to focus on teaching beginners yoga and for only $5 per class? Yoga can be intimidating. When thinking of going to a large class, people anticipate everyone will know what they are doing. I want the expectation to be that no one has any idea of what they are doing. It’s fun, we learn how our body should do yoga, and hopefully gain confidence to eventually go to a larger yoga class! I wanted to focus on doing personalized classes to help people fit yoga into their body not imitate the instructor to try and force their body into yoga.
