Paper parallel Bibles & interlinear Bibles are useful. Digital versions are more flexible, more capable, and much lighter to carry. The big book on the left is one I used in High School. The one on the right is on my smart phone. You can mix & match the Bible translations you understand best in a good Bible study app.
Customizable Parallel Bibles
Some of my favorite printed Bibles contained more than one translation. They were large, heavy books, but useful for comparisons between translations and serious study. At first, I just used one with 4 different English Bible translations, but later, as I was learning a little Greek & Hebrew, I bought books that contained the original language text, a word-for-word gloss, and a proper English translation. There are also some useful diglot Bibles that contain more than one language, like English and Spanish, or English and Chinese. These are useful for people learning a language, or for people who are already fluent in more than one language.
Now, I still like looking at more than one Bible translation at the same time, but with digital Bibles, the options are much better. With web sites like my eBible.org/study web site and apps like Bishop for Android and The Sword Project for Apple, among others, that I helped with, especially with content, you can choose your favorite combination of Bible translations to display in parallel, even with minority languages. For example, someone in Papua New Guinea might choose their own local language, a trade language (Tok Pisin), and English with British/International spelling (as taught in schools, there). A scholar may add the original languages (Greek and Hebrew) to the mix. There are many good Bible study programs English speakers, but we are working to make options like these available to everyone, no matter what their heart language might be.
