Negotiations on a Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework - Updating the Strategic Plan of the Convention on Biological Diversity

World Animal Net (WAN)’s Janice Cox attended the first meeting of the Open Ended Working Group on the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework in Nairobi. The next meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP15) is expected to adopt a new post-2020 global biodiversity framework, which is a global strategic plan to protect biological diversity (animals, plants and ecosystems). Particularly encouraging in this first meeting was recognition of the need for transformative change, the inclusion of root causes and drivers of biodiversity loss, and a new focus on implementation.
We will need to ensure that these aspects stay embedded in future negotiations.

We are thrilled that the report appears to have taken theirs and others’ expertise into account.
