North Boat Landing
As you may have noticed, the landing area on the north end of the lake was blacktopped this summer as part of the 10th Ave. reconstruction project.  The landing belongs to the Town of Alden and we thank them for doing this as part of their road project.  The old school building and the parking area belong to the DNR and the DNR does plan on removing the old school house sometime this Fall.
Seasonal Water Level
As per DNR requirements, each year on the first of November we start to lower the water level of Cedar Lake by removing boards in the dam.  The process to lower the water level to the normal winter level will take at least a couple weeks, depending on rain and snow conditions during this time.
For those that attended the annual meeting in August, you heard that there are some issues with the condition of the dam at the outlet of the lake.  We have a preliminary report from the DNR, which is available here.  We are currently talking with engineering firms to have a more in depth inspection, including repair cost estimates.  When those are available they will be posted on the website.  The dam technically belongs to the Lake District so we are responsible for any repairs, but it appears there are some DNR grants available to help with some of these costs.
A new invasive species has been found on some of the shorelines around Cedar Lake.  It's known as Yellow Flag Iris.  More information on it can be found at this DNR website.  Because it is now late in the season it is hard to identify as it has stopped blooming.  We will look for the plant again in the Spring when it is blooming and plan treatment.  .
Japanese/Giant Knotweed:
There have been several areas where Japanese Knotweed has been making a comeback. The regrowth is primarily along and within the Polk-Burnett easement on the west shore of Cedar Lake. On Saturday, September 7th, Polk-Burnett brought in Badgerland invasive eradication team to investigate and eliminate these invasives.  Lake resident Doug Dickson provided guidance to the Badgerland crew to locate specific areas along the Polk-Burnett right-of-way (along 206th).
Although we're lucky that so far we have not been affected by Zebra Mussels, it's important to be diligent and be on the lookout for this invasive species.  When you remove your docks and lifts this Fall, please take a few minutes to inspect them and look for Zebra Mussels.  If you feel you may have found some, please contact one of the Board Commissioners.  Here's some help in identifying them.
The next regular monthly meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the Cedar Lake Protection and Rehabilitation District will be held on September 24, 2019 at 5:30 at the Town of Alden Town Hall.  All are welcome to attend.
