Happy Sunday!
I went out to lunch this past Thursday, and as I was heading out of work, a friendly man, mid-conversation stopped to say hello. He said, “are you having a good day? I could see you smiling from over there.” And my reaction surprised me. I said, “Eh, it’s going okay.” The reality was that my day was going well and I was quite happy. I was about to eat a delicious lunch. Why did I feel the need to say that it wasn't great?
I've been getting better at noticing when I do something that doesn't feel good to me. So, right after I thought, “Hmm… That's a weird reaction. You’re having a good day. What was that about?”
It took me back to when I was a moody teen, and I realized that sometimes when we admit that we're happy, it feels like the other shoe is going to drop or something. Like we're not allowed to be happy. Better protect ourselves from the future pain we might experience by not expressing happiness at all?
But here's the thing: Stopping ourselves from being happy because we're afraid that we'll get hurt by the world doesn't serve us.
We deserve happiness. We are worthy of happiness. And even if something happens, it doesn't mean our happiness was wasted.
Let's take life moment by moment, appreciate all the little moments of happiness for what they are.
Have a great week, sprinkled with lots of happiness.
Until next Sunday,
