ALL-MEMBER MEETING: SEPTEMBER 18TH
WEDNESDAY, 12.30pm to 2.00pm on the 3rd floor Atrium of the ISC! We'll cover health insurance costs increases, upcoming elections, and preparation for bargaining later this year--as well as field any and all questions. If you want to attend, please, swing at any point during that time-frame--and to make it easier on us, please RSVP here! We are going to have pepperoni and veggie pizza for everyone; please let us know if you need any food accommodations!
CLIMATE STRIKE ON 9/20
Join UMB Students and Staff on September 20, this Friday, for the next Global Climate Strike! Fight for a transformation of society that organizes for the people and the planet--we need to work together as a movement to ensure that our voices are HEARD! A shuttle bus will be picking up people to bring them to the event at 10.30 on that Friday--join us then! For more information, view the flyer here!
Student Health Plan FAQ
Getting healthcare at UMass Boston is not an intuitive process... and we want to make it a bit easier!

We've prepared a short document detailing frequently asked questions about the student health insurance--how much it costs, when you have to pay, when you're eligible, and more. Read it here!

If you have other questions, contact us at geo@umb.edu. We'll add it to the FAQ if it seems like a good question for everyone to know!

PFML INFORMATION
Students deserve access to medical leaves! We have a sheet prepared on Paid Family Medical Leave (PFML), recently passed into law by Massachusetts for all state employees... but not for students. GEO needs your help to lobby to change the law and compel UMass to provide us with a medical and family leave program.

For more information and actions, view our PFML Information Document!
BETTER HEALTHCARE PETITION
At the start of the semester, we prepared a healthcare petition--and now we have the support of 15 different unions across the UMass system, and over 200 signatures.

The message is clear:
STUDENTS DESERVE FAIR HEALTHCARE

UMass Boston has an obligation to inform the student body about the changes to healthcare--and INVOLVE STUDENTS IN PICKING THE HEALTHCARE PLAN. The recent hike in the cost of the Student Heatlhcare-nearly $400--is unacceptable. SIGN THE PETITION HERE!

Anyone can sign the petition, not just students. If you know staff, faculty, or friends that agree that students deserve a say in their healthcare, ask them to sign.
ELECTIONS - LAST CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
Nominations for elections are open for a short time! The self-nomination period closes at the END OF DAY tomorrow! If you want to run in the GEO elections, click here to visit our website.
Each position is a 0.5 FTE assistantship--campaigning begins on the 19th and runs for two weeks, and voting is the week after. We'll have a kick-off party to celebrate everyone who ran and usher in the middle of the semester soon after.
