Congratulations Tim Winton Award winners!
The ceremony for the 2019 Tim Winton Award for Young Writers was held at Subiaco Library at the end of August to acknowledge the finalists across five age categories from lower primary school to upper secondary school.
Congratulations to our overall winner, sixteen year old Gabriel Merga for his story Mould.
Acclaimed author and award patron Tim Winton was a guest speaker at the event and emphasised the importance of stories, "...by expressing our love for the places we are in and the people we are with, through stories these things come alive and they stay alive". Winton said the stories we tell ourselves and tell each other are what define us and what shapes our lives.
This year, the City received more than 1470 entries, with just under 15 per cent coming from regional areas, including Ravenswood, Albany, South Hedland and Bejoording.
For more information about the award and to read the winning stories online visit the City's website.
