You will find here below some calls for proposals that may interest you. The calls are organised by topic when possible, with the indication of the concerned scientific areas.

Please note that for H2020 calls, you can always make an expertise offer in the Programme’s Partner Search Tool in order to participate and contribute to projects being promoted by other organisations. Even for other funding schemes, we can always assist in looking for projects being promoted by other entities. In this case, please contact the BRU-IUL Office for how to proceed.
 
Topic 1: Multi-topic 
Scientific Areas: Social Sciences, Economics, Data Analytics, Management
ISRF Independent Scholar Fellowship Competition
  • Application period: open until 20thSeptember 2019
  • Funding: maximum of 27000 EUR for up to 1 year
  • Eligible research:
    • Innovative research which breaks with existing explanatory frameworks so as to address afresh empirical problems with no currently adequate theory or investigative methodology
    • Innovation may also come from controversial theoretical approaches motivated by critical challenge of incumbent theories
    • Interdisciplinarity in the generation of new investigative initiatives may be achieved by combining, cross-fertilising, and so transforming empirical methods and theoretical insights from the social sciences
    • Projects ranging across the breadth of the social scientific disciplines and interdisciplinary research fields are welcome

PhD Students and Early Career Academics Research Grant Programme – The Olympic Studies Centre
  • Application period: open until 27hSeptember 2019
  • Funding: maximum of 8000 USD
  • Call objective: encourage PhD Students and Early Career Academics in their research with a humanities or social sciences perspectiveon any aspect of the Olympic phenomenon

2nd Call for Joint Project Proposals FCT – Aga Khan Development Network
  • Application period: open until 30thSeptember 2019
  • Funding: maximum 250 000 € for up to 36 months
  • Call objective: open new collaborative research projects between Portuguese, African Countries and AKDN research and academic institutions that can have a meaningful impact in consolidating research capacity in Africa.
  • Call topics: 
    • All scientific topics encouraging multidisciplinary collaboration - topics should emphasize emerging issues under the quality of life concept: food security, biodiversity, early childhood, habitat, sustainable energy systems and urban development, poverty alleviation, resettlement of migrants, civil society, among others…
    • Specific proposals fostering research on the Portuguese archives of Indian Ocean migration and trade

OECD Future of Work Fellowship Scheme 2019/2020
  • Application period: open until 15thNovember 2019
  • Funding: bursary of EUR 5,000 + travel expenses to present work at OECD
    • each fellow will be awarded a to support their research for a maximum period of 12 months (non-renewable), which will be paid upon successful completion of the research project (i.e. submission of a publishable research paper) 
  • o  In addition, the OECD will finance the cost of one economy return ticket to Paris (as well as any accommodation costs) for the Fellows to come and present their work at the OECD
  • Call topics: 
    • How globalisation, demographics and technological change are affecting labour markets – including the quantity and quality of jobs that are available, as well as how and by whom they are carried out.
    • How the demand for skills and skills use are evolving and what can be expected as the digital revolution progresses
    • The impact these trends are having on inequality, productivity and growth
    • What are the challenges for government policy in the areas of: skills, social protection, active labour market programmes, labour market regulation, and social dialogue?
    • What are innovative policy tools that can help governments address these challenges and turn them into opportunities and better lives for all?
    • For 2019/2020, proposals focusing on the impact of Artificial Intelligence on the labour market will be particularly appreciated.

QSR-IIQM (International Institute for Qualitative Methodology) Research Grant for Early Career Researchers
  • Application period: open until 29th November 2019
  • Funding: 25000 USD over two years (April 2020 - March 2022)
  • Eligible research:
    1. To be eligible, applicants must be engaged in innovative research that involves the collection and analysis of qualitative data. Innovation may be in new forms of data collection, data analysis and output or the methods employed. 
    2. The research must involve the use of NVivo in at least part of the analysis. 
    3. Projects can range across disciplines, including the breadth of the social science disciplines, health research, humanities, and interdisciplinary research fields.

The British Academy Global Professorships 2020
  • Application period: open until 19th February 2020
  • Funding: awards are for a 4-year period; the British Academy will provide funding of up to £187,500 per annum, and up to £750,000 over 4 years, while the host UK institution is expected to contribute up to £37,500 per annum

EEA Grants Portugal – Fund for Bilateral Relations Call #1
  • Application period: open until 31st December 2020
  • Funding: between 5000-15000 € (up to 90% of eligible costs) for projects between Portugal and the Donor Countries (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway)
  • Eligible activities:
    1. matchmaking events; 
    2. technical cooperation and exchange of experts; short-term internships; training actions;
    3. workshops and seminars on topics of common interest;
