SHPA is hiring for a Policy & Advocacy Coordinator;
The Policy and Advocacy Coordinator is the lead coordinator in the development and facilitation of the SHPA statewide advocacy plan for the increase of supportive housing opportunities in Illinois and the coordination and facilitation of the statewide advocacy committee as outlined in the SHPA strategic plan. The Coordinator will also research policy and develop advocacy campaigns on issues related to supportive housing and services. The Coordinator’s goal is the preservation and increase supportive housing capacity and funding for supportive services. The Coordinator reports directly to the Executive Director. The Coordinator will work primarily out of SHPA’s Springfield office. If this position interests you please click here for the detailed job description. News Release from Illinois Lottery

 Illinois Lottery Releases Instant Ticket to Help Fund Homelessness Prevention Programs
The latest Illinois Lottery instant ticket sold for the purpose of helping a specialty cause in Illinois is now available at Lottery retailers across the state.
Profits from the “Easy as 1-2-3” game, which went on sale September 3, will be deposited into the Homelessness Prevention Revenue Fund and be used by the Illinois Department of Human Services for homelessness prevention and assistance program grants.

Important Reminder:
If you haven't submitted your signed copy of your FY20 Contract Amendment please do so immediately, The Bureau cannot process your Advance Payment until they have received your signed contract amendment. This will also hold up your voucher payment. 

Speaking of voucher payments, this process is very simple, all you need to do is log-in to your account in the homeless portal and complete the monthly financial report. You can complete the financial report as early as the first of the month. The bureau staff will review reports as soon as reports are submitted and begin the payment process.  Please do not wait until the deadline to submit your report the sooner it is submitted the sooner you can receive payment.

We also strongly encourage that if you are not set-up for Direct Deposit please consider doing so this will also speed up receipt of your payments. 

Please be sure to submit your reports on time, late reports will result with your agencies placement on the stop pay list and once your on the stop pay list ALL payments regardless of program will be stopped. If you are experiencing issues with getting reports in on-time please be sure to contact Bureau staff right away. If you are in need of technical assistance please contact either Aaron Eldridge at a.eldridge@shpa-il.org or Jennifer Orban at j.orban@shpa-il.org.

New Funding Available for the Creation of Community-Based Supportive Housing
 
 
As announced, the Illinois Housing Development Authority is now accepting applications under the Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) Development Program to fund developments serving special needs populations and persons with disabilities, including residents who are transitioning out of nursing homes and into community living. We encourage all eligible sponsors to apply for this opportunity. Applications are due to IHDA on October 18, 2019 at 5:00 p.m.

The Charitable Trust Stabilization Fund was created in 2007 to help small non-profits across Illinois. Money for the Fund comes from the filing fees not-for-profit organizations pay to incorporate with the State of Illinois. The program is funded by non-profits and exists to support non-profits.

Housing Action Illinois: Releases a policy brief on Black and White Disparities in Homelessness
Black Illinoisans are disproportionately more likely to experience homelessness compared to White Illinoisans, even among those living in poverty. Housing Action Illinois' new policy brief uses newly available federal data to examine racial disparities in homelessness in Illinois and suggests policy changes that would help address them.
