Hoover Road Apartments Accountability Action

Thursday, September 19, 2019, Hoover Road Apartments
1126 South Hoover Road, Durham, NC 27703

Gathering starts at 5:30pm
Meeting starts at 6pm until 7pm

Durham CAN Clergy, Lay leaders, congregational members and supporters (that's us, Judea folk!) are encouraged to come in support of the Hoover Road residents.

WHY
On August 22, 2019, residents from the Hoover Road Apartments (a Durham Housing Authority community), leaders from Durham CAN, and leaders from Orange Grove Missionary Baptist Church, presented Durham Housing Authority CEO, Mr. Anthony Scott, with the results of our work together over the past 4 months regarding repairs and evictions.  Mr. Scott not only received 100 photos documenting chronic disrepair in 20 units, but also heard directly from residents about the impact of these living conditions and their experiences with evictions.

During that action, Mr. Scott committed to the following:
•A plan for completing repairs
•Training for DHA Staff on HUD, City of Durham and DHA housing standards
•Organizing resident education session(s) re: tenant rights
•Restoring/crediting eviction court fees

Mr. Scott will be making his commitments publicly to the Hoover Road community and report on his progress.
