The Gifts of Change

Kelly Robbins, RScP

Change. It’s going to happen whether we like it or not. Our bodies change. The people we love change. Our lives are comprised of births and deaths. Successes and failures. Ups and downs. Change is a part of life.
Oftentimes when we think of change we default to something difficult that we didn’t choose. Such as Rev. Jyoti’s retirement or a major illness of ourselves or a loved one.
There are also times in life where we make a choice to consciously change. This type of change comes from an empowered place and requires us to choose to step into an uncomfortable space.

The difference is we do it with the intention to create something better. For ourselves. For our community. For our planet. For example, we may choose to run for office, or we may choose to end a relationship that no longer serves us. Both of which require us to choose how we spend our time differently.

It’s easiest to take ourselves on when we want to rather than when it is forced upon us. We can choose to get guidance and support. We can choose a state of being open – open to seeing the truth about ourselves and situations we are in. Open to new and different and perhaps at first, uncomfortable ways of being. ...

From the Board

Bittersweet Changes

Linda Williamson

Secretary, CSLBV Board of Trustees

Bittersweet. Please join the party this Friday to celebrate Reverend Jyoti’s retirement! She and her wife Mary are moving to Grand Junction and we will certainly miss them both. It’s so hard to say goodbye to these two amazing humans who give so much and ask for so little in return. At the same time, it’s easy to be excited for Jyoti and Mary in their next steps on this earth journey! (Please, they request no gifts - they’re moving!!) There is a beautiful book to sign and all are welcome to speak during the toast at 7:30.

Coincidentally our awesome Practitioner Lorelei Matisse, has decided to move to Florida where the paddle boarding is great, so we will be sending her off with much Love as well.

This leaves us in the most excellent and capable hands with our ‘new’ Sr. Minister, Rev. Lea Alvarado. She has been our Assistant Minister since November 2018 and a Practitioner prior to that. As Rev. Jyoti said on Sunday, we’re lucky to have her!

Always check our Events Calendar for upcoming events and classes. We have an exciting Third Thursday Spiritual Forum scheduled for this Thursday, Sept 19: Introduction to Shamanism. It should be very good -- as they all are!

We are looking for a benefactor/sponsor to purchase flowers for the altar every Sunday for $20 per week. This will continue our partnership with Lafayette Florist AND you get to take the flowers home with you after every Sunday service to enjoy and bless your space! Please contact Rev. Lea or any board member if this is something you would like to contribute. And we heartily thank Jyoti and Mary for their gracious generosity in providing the beautiful flowers up until now.

Rev. Jyoti's Retirement Party!!!

Friday, September 20, 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
At the Center for Musical Arts
200 East Baseline Road, Lafayette

Come Join us as we honor Rev. Jyoti for all that she has done for  our Center and for our community! The party starts at 6:30, and there will be hoop-n-holler toast at 7:30.

What about a retirement gift?

  • How about a gold watch? No, she is always in the now.
  • How about a new jacket? No, she has unbounded love inside warming her.
  • How about a new pair of walking shoes? No, she is an angel that glides effortless in this world.
How about we just complete the cycle of giving and receiving and return to her the love and joy she has boundlessly given us all through her years of ministry.
A deeper YES!

It  is requested that you just bring your love and joy to the party. No gifts please.

Affirmation:

I move through change with ease and grace knowing Spirit is a guiding force in my life

Third Thursday Spiritual Forum

Introduction to Shamanism

Thursday, September 19, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Center for Spiritual Living Boulder Valley

Experience an Ancient Foundational Spiritual Practice

This presentation provides an overview of Shamanism and includes an experiential exercise in drumming and receiving information. Shamanism is an ancient practice for healing and understanding the world. Classical shamanism recognizes two realities: ordinary reality, which is our normal waking consciousness of consensual reality, and non-ordinary reality. Spirits are in non-ordinary reality in the upper, middle, and lower worlds. The shaman communicates with wise, compassionate spirits in these worlds to receive information and provide the power for healing. Shamans work in an altered state of consciousness brought on by steady drumming. The session includes an experiential exercise involving drumming and a journey to a favorite place in nature to find out which of our five normal and other lesser-known senses serve as our best channels for receiving information. For more information see https://worldshaman.org and https://shamanism.org. Love offering.

Presenter Biography. Ellen Winner is a retired patent attorney living in Boulder, CO who has devoted herself to Shamanistic practices and education. She began studying Shamanism in 1984 with The Foundation for Shamanic Studies, which has revived Shamanism in the Western World. She has also studied with indigenous Himalayan shamans in Nepal. She is a Faculty Member of The Foundation teaching workshops in shamanism in Kansas, Nebraska, and Wyoming. She has authored two books on Shamanism: Thoughts in the Mind of God and World Shaman. More information and The Enlightenment Blog can be found at her website: https://worldshaman.org.

Third Thursday Spiritual Forums present mind-broadening and spirit-enriching topics every month. Further information:  contact Dr. Jay Burch (phone 720-917-9303, or email: jayburch333@gmail.com).

Spiritual Uplift Ministry

Wednesday, September 25; 6:30 pm

The Spiritually Guided Social Uplift Ministry (SUM) Discussions give us an opportunity to discuss important issues of our times in a thoughtful, respectful way from a standpoint of spiritual principle. It’s a chance for us to open our hearts and minds and listen to and consider viewpoints that may be different from our own. For more information about the SUM program, click here to visit the SUM website. The CSLBV discussions are facilitated by Reverend Lea and Practitioner Kelly Robbins and all are welcome. Contact Kelly or Rev. Lea if you have questions.
The topic for the SUM discussion this month continues from last month: Healing Racism and Upholding Ethnic Fairness. There are still deep racial divisions in America that must be overcome and healed in order to create a world that works for all. Healing happens within each one of us.  Come explore and discuss how your life has unfolded with regards to personal and collective racism. Facilitated by Rev. Lea and Practitioner Kelly Robbins. All are welcome.

Goodsearch and Goodshop

Raising money for CSLBV the easy way

Goodsearch

Every time you use Goodsearch for your internet searches, they make a donation to your favorite cause. You’ll set up an account with them (your Goodshop account works here) and select Center for Spiritual Living Boulder Valley so they know who to send the money to. Use the search box on their homepage or download a Good To-Go browser add-on to search the Internet just like you normally would. Where does the money come from? Search engines make most of their money from their advertisers.  Goodsearch has patented a way to track and direct these search-generated proceeds to causes. In other words, a portion of advertiser dollars (and not your own!) earned as a result of your search, are now passed along to the organization you've chosen to support. To sign up:

Goodshop

Goodshop is an online shopping mall that donates a percent of your purchases to your selected cause. You’ll set up an account with Goodshop, which keeps track of the amount raised and the cause you want it to go to. To set up an account or to log in, click here. Once you’re in, browse Goodshop for your favorite store. Find a coupon code or deal, or click over to the store’s website from Goodshop and shop as you normally would. Copy the code on the pop-up, and paste the code at checkout. It doesn’t cost anything extra. Where does the money come from? The online stores pay a referral fee to Goodshop. They give half of the fee as a donation to your selected cause.
