City of Niagara Falls TD Green Space Tree Planting Event

NIAGARA FALLS, ON - Join the City of Niagara Falls at the TD Green Space Tree Planting event taking place on Friday, October 18, 2019 at Firemen’s Park to help enhance our urban forest canopy.  This tree planting and pollinator garden installation event is made possible through a $25,000 dollar grant from TD Bank Group (TD) and the Arbor Day Foundation to support innovative urban greening and tree planting projects in underserved areas of the community.

TD provides funding for the grants, which are awarded annually for tree planting, maintenance costs and educational activities, and the Arbor Day Foundation administers the program. The TD Green Space Grant program is a component of The Ready Commitment, TD’s corporate citizenship platform designed to help create a more inclusive and sustainable tomorrow.

Majority of this funding enabled the City of Niagara Falls to install various native trees at 6 different park locations that have recently received new playground equipment.  These new trees will allow youth to play in areas that are now more inviting and have shade protection.  The remainder of the funding will be utilized to plant 60 native trees and 500 wild flower plugs at Firemen’s Park through the help of local volunteers.  The Park in the City Committee was the recipient of the grant and is coordinating efforts to implement the tree planting initiatives.
