The National Beef Strategy 2020-24 has been released, including three videos to help communicate the goals and objectives of the Strategy for the beef industry.

National Beef Strategy sees global opportunities ahead and meets industry challenges head on for 2020-24

Calgary, AB – The Canadian Beef Advisors are pleased to release the 2020-24 National Beef Strategy. The strategy is designed to take advantage of the opportunities facing the industry while simultaneously addressing the challenges. The development of the 2020-24 National Strategy has been a dynamic collaborative process engaging all industry sectors and national and provincial organizations. The Canadian Beef Advisors and provincial cattle associations believe a united industry is a stronger industry, and that a stronger industry benefits all those working in it today and into the future.

Substantial progress was made under the 2015-19 strategy and the intention is to continue building on the strengths of existing industry organizations. “The National Beef Strategy has provided real value for Canadian beef producers; it acts as a roadmap for the groups as they work together. We have set our industry up for success, now we just need to follow through.” said David Haywood-Farmer, Past Chair of the Beef Advisors. [...]

ThinkBeef: Team Homan Partnership

In an effort to promote two key generic beef (import levy supported) initiatives Baby at the Table, and Fuel Up for Fun, Canada Beef's ThinkBeef program has a new relationship with Canada’s leading women’s curling team – Team Homan.

With two of the women on the team recently expanding their families and having babies this past summer, ThinkBeef is telling the story of how beef plays an important role in their healthy pregnancy and delivery, and healthy babies.

ThinkBeef has a new space to explore to share their story and will be leveraging the resources on consumer social media platforms as well as on the platforms of Team Homan.

ThinkBeef also secured title sponsorship of their Junior Curling Camp that took place in September to promote Fuel up for Fun. This, along with the social media efforts in collaboration with Team Homan will help to build awareness of the resource and ThinkBeef.ca.

Curling Continues with Team Koe on the farm

This summer, Canada Beef provided Team Koe with the opportunity to ask questions and find out firsthand from producer Chris and Stacey Israelson how they raise cattle on their farm. Here's a little snippet of what they learned. Keep an eye out for more of Kevin Koe and his team on the farm in the coming months at canadabeef.ca/teamkoe.

Guardians of the Grasslands premier

Guardians Of The Grasslands is a short documentary brought to you by a group of dedicated conservationists, ranchers and Canadian filmmakers. The film explores the current state of one of the world’s most endangered ecosystems, the Great Plains grasslands, and the role that cattle play in its survival. As we reach new critical levels in the loss of these iconic landscapes, there are important truths we must face about humanity’s relationship with the land and our food.

The production of Guardians Of The Grasslands documentary was funded in part by the Canadian Beef Cattle Check-Off.
The short documentary is being premiered this week in Calgary, and an additional premier is being scheduled for Ottawa as well. Whether you represent an organization, a school, or yourself, you can organize a screening in your local community and spread the message. Research supports environmental improvements

A 2015 study found that producing the same amount of Canadian beef in 2011 required 29% less breeding stock, 27% fewer slaughter cattle and 24% less land, and produced 15% less greenhouse than in 1981. Additional research is currently underway to measure changes in water quality, carbon sequestration, biodiversity, and other ecosystem services.

By taking time to better understand the various ways your farm or ranch impacts the environment, and considering your current environmental stewardship, you may find additional ways to optimize your management, and reap the associated economic and social benefits.

As a beef producer, what do you need to know about the environmental footprint of Canadian beef production? You have a very good story to tell. - beefresearch.ca
Technologies and innovative production practices related to land management, genetic improvements in growth and reproductive rates, feed strategies to optimize feed efficiency and more can help to ensure that our industry’s environmental footprint continues to shrink.
