On August 13th, the SVP Portland Board of Directors held its annual planning retreat. Topics discussed included intermediate success metrics indicating we are making strong progress toward our goal, as well as priority roles for the next year that position us to maximize our impact.

It’s October and we are proud to welcome in the last quarter of the year by recognizing Megan Loeb as our Partner of the Month! At the end of 2018, Megan stepped into the role of Lead Partner for the Immigrant & Refugee Community Organization (IRCO). Since then, she has been collaborating with the SVP Portland Partner team and IRCO leadership to address the preschool needs of IRCO's community.

On September 20th, more than 600 people came out to support Latino Network at their annual Noche Bella event. One of the successes featured was the Juntos Aprendemos program, which prepares children and their families for success in kindergarten. The program started in 2003, and has now scaled to 14 programs in the Portland Metro area and a pilot the program in Central Oregon.

Workshop: Issues & Advocacy

Tuesday, November 12th

Addressing community problems by scaling nonprofit operations can be impactful but limited by systemic constraints requiring remedy through government action. In this workshop, you will become familiar with the conditions conducive for governmental bodies to act, be able to map the environment of a policy area, and be able to articulate strategies promoting government action.

SVP Partners are invited to join us in celebrating the release of the Preschool for All report, which calls for dramatic expansion in affordable, high-quality preschool opportunities for children in Multnomah County. Partners who were engaged in the effort will reflect on the collaborative process, and we will hear from Commissioner Jessica Vega Pederson about next steps for the initiative.
