Midweek Update for October 2
The Mission Council needs everyone’s help to build consensus in creating a vision for the next chapter of ministry for First Christian Church. Lesleigh Carmichael of Ministry Architects will walk us through an interactive brainstorming session to lay the groundwork for creating a shared Mission Statement, Core Values, and 3-Year Goals.

Come be a part of setting a vision for our next chapter of ministry Saturday, October 5 from 9 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. in the church gym. All are welcome and encouraged to participate in this worthwhile effort. You don't have to be a member to share your ideas.

To ensure your voice is heard and you are prepared for our brainstorming session, we are asking everyone to fill out the Pre-Vision Summit Homework Sheet before the meeting. You can access it by clicking here to print it, or pick up a copy from the gathering area at church. You may submit it one of the following ways:
  • Bring your completed copy with you to the brainstorming session at 9 a.m. on Saturday, October 5.
  • If you cannot attend the session on October 5th, please bring the attached homework to the church office or email by Thursday, October 3rd to ensure your thoughts are included in the brainstorming session.

Please email Dixon or call the church office at 205-991-5000 to RSVP your attendance Saturday, October 5th at 9:00 a.m.  We really hope you will take time to join us!

Blessings,
FCC Mission Council
Luke 14:15-24
Around the world this week, Christian churches of all varieties are invited to celebrate World Communion Sunday. As we listen to the parable of God's Great Banquet, we'll be invited to remember that although we all need to eat, God's nourishment is more than physical food. The worldwide witness of churches on every continent proclaiming Jesus at the Table shows the world our commitment. It also reminds each of us of the power of God to unify us no matter how much we have convinced ourselves we are divided. Sunday's worship will be during our Visioning Summit weekend. Let us be in prayer for God to speak through each of us to form together a vision for our witness in this place.

Since the 1960s, the Christian Church Disciples of Christ has shared our resources to address the racism of our society and the racism within our own Church. We have called this work Reconciliation Ministry.

This year the special offering for this work will be received in many congregations Oct 6. The form of this ministry may be changing, but the need for addressing racism continues.

As our Church lives into its identity as a “movement for wholeness in a fragmented world,” gifts to this offering facilitate leadership development opportunities, grants, and programs for dialogue across difference that promote life-giving community among the whole family of God.

If you would like to contribute to this important offering, you can drop a check in the offering plate on Sunday morning with "Reconciliation Offering" in the memo line or go to fcc-bhm.org/give and choose "Reconciliation Offering" from the drop down menu.

Interested in a Ladies' small group for fellowship and study? Ona Ruth Women’s group typically meets the second Sunday of the month. Our next meeting is on Sunday, October 13th, following worship. We will meet in the gym for lunch and fellowship. Our study will be presented by our talented member, Suanne Ferguson, as she shares “Thoughts on Creation.” You won’t want to miss this as it is sure to be enlightening. We will also continue planning our mission service for the Lovelady Center.

All women are welcome! Come and enjoy good food, fellowship, and prayer with this caring group of ladies. Planning to attend? Please call Barbara Ray (864-313-5059) or Linda Byrd (205-960-2442) so they can provide our hostesses, Janet Bonds, Lori Henry, and Beverly Baxter a head count to plan for food. If you have questions, feel free to call Joye Taylor at 205-447-0209.
There will be an informational meeting for anyone interested in participating in an Altar Flower Guild on Sunday, Oct. 20th, immediately following worship.  For questions, contact Lori Henry 205-253-8710 or e-mail at LHenry3316@gmail.com.
