Dear Friends of Scott & Taun Hall,

As Vivian noted earlier this week, we have made some progress with the City on next steps regarding the review of current training, policies and protocols and would like to formally launch our own subcommittees to provide research, resources and ideas that we can take to the City in the weeks ahead.

Since July 27, we have refined the working groups into three main categories of issues (with specific action items to be defined later by each committee) we plan to address with the City:
  1.  Implicit bias education and training
  2.  Mental health awareness, training and crisis intervention techniques
  3.  Use of non-lethal force and de-escalation procedures by police and other first responders
In addition, there are additional work streams not directly related to the work we will initiate immediately with the City that you may also want to contribute to and can sign up for:
  • Future City protocols related to the review and investigation of any officer involved death in Walnut Creek
  • The erecting of a monument in honor of Miles Hall
  • The potential development of a community education series regarding the topics above
  • The development of county wide policies related to (a) mental health crisis intervention; and (b) District Attorney and police oversight

Please use this survey link to volunteer for your areas of interest by Wednesday, October 2 (if at all possible) so that we can gather the information and get these groups to work.

There is other work under way and we will provide additional information in the days ahead, but wanted to reach out specifically on these committees to gather volunteers and start that process. For any questions regarding this message, please feel free to contact Ted Angus directly at 925-349-8974.

Sincerely,

Friends of Scott & Taun Hall
