Kiki Smith: Into the Twilight

For Kiki Smith's first exhibition in Belgium, more than 100 prints, sculptures and drawings from 1981 to the present will be on display. The title of Kiki Smith’s exhibition refers to that particular hour when day becomes night, that moment when the dog must protect the sheep and when the wolf makes use of the darkness to come out of the woods. All of Kiki Smith's art works oscillate between light and darkness, and evolve from quiet nature towards the untamability of certain animals. She reveals our unfathomable fears, that which is haunting the depths of our intimacy and what we would like to keep hidden.

Brian Eno will exhibit work next month at the Glasgow Print Studio alongside works by a selection of national and international artists who each use color to explore the beautifully expressive and varied mark-making techniques of intaglio printmaking. Arguably best known for his work in ambient music, Eno is also a celebrated visual artist, having exhibited his abstract, diffusive artworks globally since the 1970s. His prints explore the possibilities that the medium of light provides. Eno's large-scale etchings to be exhibited at GPS are seemingly made by color suppressing a powerful light, appearing as "stills‟ based on his series of light boxes, and chart the progression of light changing over a period of time.

The Minneapolis Print & Drawing Fair will return to the Twin Cities for its 26th year. Dealers and print publishers from across the country bring hundreds of original prints and drawings that span the celebrated masters of the past to new emerging artistic talent. There will be a ticketed preview party on Friday, October 4th followed by free admission Saturday and Sunday.

Symbols and Archetypes: Two Millenia of Recurring Visions in Art

This exhibition examines artworks and artifacts from different eras, cultures and disciplines, all through the lens of the archetypal themes that they share. This gallery presentation takes as its point of departure Carl Jung’s 1912 publication Symbols of Transformation, which frames the unconscious as a collective psyche, and the instinctive force driving visions to reappear time and again throughout human history—in dreams, religions, folklore and art from across the world.

This exhibition presents new monotypes based on the explosive beauty of Japan’s Hanabi firework festivals. Inspired by plein air sketches made during the artist’s time in Nagaoka, Japan, in 2014, Moix’s new works evoke an immersive sense of wonderment, brilliantly capturing the energy and awe of the traditional pyrotechnic displays. The democratic nature of the Hanabi festivals celebrates humankind’s universal relationship to fleeting beauty, surprise and its connection to life.
