It's Game Time!

Language classes are off to a fun start! The first thematic unit for this year's language classes is "Let's Play Together!". In this unit, students will be learning to discuss the activities they do for fun, describe their likes and dislikes, and learn games and play-related expressions.

Meet Maruko-Chan!

Tuning into cartoons is a fun way to improve Japanese language skills for kids! Follow the Chibi (Little) Maruko-chan series, which is about a precocious and kind-hearted elementary school student who lives with her family in Shizuoka. It has been broadcast since 1990 in more than sixty countries, and is one of Japan’s top-rated animation series.

Community Size Matters

Why do some languages have simpler grammars than others? Researchers propose that the size of the community influences the complexity of the language that evolves in it. After comparing more than two thousand languages, scientists noticed that languages with more speakers are usually simpler than smaller languages. Happy Oktoberfest!

Oktoberfest is the largest festival in the world attracting 6 million visitors to Germany. It is celebrated for 3 weeks from mid-September up to the first weekend of October. Giant pretzels are symbolic of this celebration. Traditionally, these soft pretzels are boiled in lye before baking. Have some much kneaded fun by making your own with this recipe!
