Taking our steel stock to a new dimension

It is not every day that a truck with a 56,000 kg heavy round bar arrives at our workshop. Last week however, was such a day.

At MarineShaft we want to give our customers the shortest delivery time, Whether a damaged propeller shaft or rudder stock is to be repaired or replaced.
To fulfill this, we have a large stock of class approved steel and Thursday last week this new piece arrived at our workshop:

A huge round bar in material C-Mn with a diameter of Ø805 and 14,000 mm long was unloaded. Take a look. Teamwork required.
I would like to share 2 manufacturing cases with you:

Manufacturing of 1 pc rudder stock and 2 hydraulic nuts for rudder stock  
We recently manufactured a new rudder stock with the dimensions Ø440 x 5510 mm for a bulk carrier.

The material was in stock, which meant that we could contact the involved classification society promptly for inspection of the material and acceptance of the manufacturing plan, and start cutting the bar.

Furthermore, we manufactured 2 pcs nuts and a new upper and lower sleeve. The final inspection and approval of this work was carried out by a LR Surveyor.

Delivery time within 2 weeks.

This manufacturing job included on-site assistance from one of our service engineers, as we were asked to supervise the machining of the rudder cone. This on-site work took place at a shipyard in Turkey.
Manufacturing of bearing housing
We received an order for a new bronze bearing housing and from stock we took a bronze pipe and a bronze flange. After machining we welded the flange onto the tube. The manufacturing plan and final approval was carried out by ABS.
