Meet Our Producers - Stories From the Field
Furleigh Farms - Erik Furleigh and Sarah Tweeten (Clear Lake)
Fall Fun - by Sarah Tweeten

As the fruit and vegetable season nears the end, we find ourselves enjoying this time of year at Furleigh Farms. The air gets a bit cooler, the sun dips below the horizon a little earlier and the sounds of combines harvesting their crop will soon surround us.

We particularly enjoy the Fall season because it marks the opening of our pumpkin patch. We love having families of all ages come out to the patch to pick out the “perfect” pumpkin. With the crop of pumpkins we have this year, that can be tough to do as there as so many options! The customers love the variety of pumpkins we have including your standard jack-o-lantern pumpkins, white pumpkins, Cinderella (light green) pumpkins, the GIANT pumpkins, pie pumpkins, gourds and more! In addition to the fun of picking out a pumpkin, we also offer a variety of free, fun activities for the family including a corn maze, petting zoo, bounce house and corn pit.

During this time, we set up a sales trailer and our store is run entirely out in the field. This works great as customers can buy ready pick or pick their own produce while checking out the pumpkin patch. Besides the pumpkins, we have tomatoes, peppers and squash still growing in the garden. You have already seen our acorn squash in the box, but we look forward to providing you with more and contributing to the Fall Share Bounty Box.

We hope you have enjoyed the Bounty Box program this year. It has been a pleasure producing some of the food that has gone into it.
