If you ask me, summer has worn out its welcome and needs to make room for autumn. In a few weeks, the leaves will be regaling us with their annual symphony of color and reminding us of the splendor of God’s good earth. I hope that you and your loved ones are tolerating the heat and are able to give thanks for God’s blessings.

I am looking forward to celebrating World Communion Sunday with our neighbors, Emmanuel Presbyterian Church and Iglesia Santuario who share space in our buildings. When you look at all the world’s religions, Christianity is the probably the most transnational and multicultural. We are not wedded to one geographical region or one ethnic heritage. You will find Christian churches thriving in most countries around the world. I love the idea that over 24 different time zones millions of Christians will be gathering at tables in churches large and small, singing hymns and praising God in hundreds of languages and dialects, dressed in various clothing, celebrating God’s great gift to the world, Jesus Christ. We will be especially blessed to have Emmanuel bring us their spirited music and colorful heritage dress.

I want to thank the former members of Milner Memorial Presbyterian Church and the Presbytery of the New Hope for the very generous check we received in worship last Sunday. These funds will enable us to pay down the principal on our current mortgage and to deal with deferred maintenance that our current operating budget cannot handle. The session, in consultation with our members from Milner, has decided to use these funds for over-and-beyond financial needs of the church, not day-to-day operation costs. Some may be tempted to cut back their current level of giving, but we hope that will not be the case.

As the world around us gets more and more divided, I pray that the basic Christian message of reconciliation will bring compassion, understanding, and tolerance. Ours is a message and mission of love and acceptance by a loving, merciful God who loves all and wants all to receive peace and joy. I continue to be grateful for all you do in helping us do our part in continuing Jesus’ ministry around the world. I hope to see you in church on Sunday. Remember that we are asking everyone to gather in the courtyard after worship for a brief group photograph taken by Ralph’s drone!

Upcoming Communion dates: October 6th and November 3rd

On October 6th, World Communion Sunday, we will receive the Peace and Global Witness offering. As the Presbyterian Mission Agency notes, the “Peace & Global Witness Offering enables the church to promote the peace of Christ by addressing systems of injustice in our own communities and around the world.” The offering is divided as follows to promote peace: 25% stays with Trinity, 25% stays in our region, and 50% is channeled into global efforts.

Trinity’s mission team has designated the Salvation Army as the recipient of our local portion of funds. On their website, the Salvation Army is defined as “…an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.”

We're ready for PUMPKINS and the delivery date is set! We’ll receive the pumpkins on Saturday, October 12th. Shelley Clayton is looking for all hands on deck, if you are able, to help unload at around 3:30 pm. As a thank you, dinner will be provided after we unload the truck. Children and adults welcome! If you have a wheelbarrow, please bring it along. Thank you!
