BA Digest: A round-up of useful BA articles from the web

Dear <<First Name>>,

A very warm welcome to the latest edition of the Blackmetric BA Digest, a useful round-up of BA articles and news from around the web.  This part of the year always seems to be super-busy, with a whole range of BA events and conferences.  It's been hard to squeeze it all into this newsletter.

Next Free #BACommunity webinar
Firstly, I'm very pleased to say that our free #BACommunity webinar series is continuing at pace. Our September webinar is on a topic that divides the change community -- the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).  We're joined by  Almudena Rodriguez Pardo who has wide-ranging experience in this area. We're aiming for this to include a section for live Q&A, so please come along with any questions that you have.
Upcoming BA Events and Conferences
There are a whole range of BA events and conferences coming up. The fact that there are so many conferences shows how recognition of the discipline is continuing to grow. If you are aware of any other conferences, please drop me a line and I'll include them in the next edition of the newsletter:
Additionally, be sure to connect with your local IIBA chapter, as there are regular chapter events around the world too. For those of you in the UK, be sure to check out the IIBA UK chapter.

As usual, we have carefully curated a selection of links from around the web--these are included below--we hope that you enjoy reading/watching them! Please drop me a line if there is a topic that you'd like to see included in a future newsletter, or if you find an article that you'd like to share.  And if you do find this newsletter valuable, please feel free to forward it to your colleagues and connections. They can sign up here to receive the newsletter directly.

Kind regards & I hope to catch up with you soon,

PS -- As many of you know, we run courses on-site for BA teams.  If we can help in any way, please just let us know.  We're also very excited to let you know that we now have public versions of some of our most popular courses running in London, Brussels and Hilversum (Netherlands).   We hope to see you there!

Your BA Digest Reading List: A round-up of useful business analysis resources

Quick reads & resources (if you have 5-10 minutes):

1. Another Form Of Fake Agile: The Agile Sweatshop by Steve Denning in Forbes: This article argues that firms often fail to adopt agile principles at an organisational level, with the danger that 'high end sweat-shops' emerge.

2. Digital Transformation Portfolios by Rob Moores:  A very interesting blog in which Rob proposes three common 'strands' of digital transformation activity.

3. How Diversity and Inclusion Can Improve Testing by Callum Akehurst-Ryan on the Scot Logic blog: In this article, Callum warns of the dangers of an engineering mono-culture; a topic that I am sure is just as relevant for Business Analysis as it is for Testing.

4. Reflections on studying (and passing) the IIBA®-AAC (Agile Analysis Certificate): Are you considering Agile Analysis certification? If so, check out this blog.

5. Improve Your Decisions By Seeking What's Not There by Adriana Beal: A fascinating article where Adriana explains the impact of 'survivor' bias, and why in World War II, the US military added armour to the engines and not the wings of planes.

6. Internal Products by Kent McDonald on the KBP Media Blog: In this article, Kent explores the difference between product and project management, and outlines what is meant by an 'internal product'.

7. Take Back Control Of Your Working Day; It's Time To Be Deliberate by Kate Turner: Have you ever felt like you spend your day sleepwalking from meeting to meeting? You're not alone--this article provides a fresh perspective.

8. Should Business Analysts Become Product Managers? by Kevin Brennan on BATimes: This useful article explores some of the differences and similarities between Business Analysis and Product Management.

9.Once Upon a Narrative — A Case for Storytelling by Jéan Raath: In this excellent and thought provoking article, Jéan discusses the importance and power of storytelling and the 'business case' for stories in a business context.

10. When BAs go Bad by Christina Lovelock on BATimes:  In this article, a range of 'bad' BA behaviour traps are discussed. Do you recognise any of them?!
