Next Tuesday 1st October we thought we would like to celebrate "Lincolnshire Day" by wearing a colour from the Lincolnshire flag as an accessory. The Lincolnshire flag is red/blue/green and yellow. So, normal uniform, but add a ribbon/badge/cap/socks/tights; in a flag colour, just for the day.
Those of us lucky enough to live in Lincolnshire, know and understand the benefits but we would like to share the good things with the children and perhaps learn something new about Lincolnshire too! So please bring to school an interesting fact about Lincolnshire that we can all share.
Lincolnshire day marks the anniversary of the "Lincolnshire Rising", when there was a revolt by the Catholics against the establishment of the Church of England by Henry VIII in 1536.
Lincolnshire has had many famous residents such as Sir Isaac Newton and Baroness Thatcher, our first female Prime Minister, but there is so much more to discover.
Next week, on Thursday 3rd October we will hold an Open Day at school. There will be normal lessons throughout the day, coffee in the hall in the morning between 10am - 11am; and an opportunity to hear our wonderful school band at 3.15pm. Please take the opportunity to pop in and tour the school on a normal working day and bring your friends and family.
Enjoy the weekend.

Jeans for Genes Day
The children in Pre-school and Reception spent time reflecting on different things that they could do to help people who weren't well. We talked about children and families who are affected by genetic disorders who are ill in hospital, and that the money that we had raised in school for Jeans for Genes Day would go to help these people. The children showed great concern and empathy. Well done everyone!
On Monday morning, for early morning work, the children in Class One were challenged to create symmetrical butterflies. Using small mirrors to see the reflection and to find the central line of symmetry, the children were able to create some stunningly bright wings for their fluttery insects. Unbeknown to us, Freddie and his Mummy had been doing some baking over the weekend and he kindly presented each of his friends with a yummy butterfly shaped shortbread. Whoever said "good maths can give you wings" was absolutely correct! Thank you Freddie and well done everyone.
"I believe there's a hero in all of us, that keeps us honest, gives us strength and makes us nobel." - Spiderman.
Class Two's epic 'Superhero Project' has unfortunately drawn to a close. As the Sun sets on this extraordinary topic, another day dawns for the pursuit of knowledge and achievement.
The project was a complete success, helping to increase enthusiasm and ironing out any 'September-Worries' that occur when starting a new class. All the children worked to the upmost of their ability and had a fantastic time doing so (as you can see from the picture!).
Class 3 have been sharpening their geographical skills during their lesson this week. The children were using 4 figure grid references (along the corridor up the stairs!) to locate places on the Ordnance Survey maps. They were also using the key to explore what all the map symbols mean.
Class 4 have been busy writing about their adventures over the summer holidays. They created a postcard to convey their special memories and brought along wonderful photographs showing the activities they were involved in and the places they visited. Their work has been collated and displayed in the classroom, making it a bright and cheerful environment to be a part of.
This week the children were engineering a weak material and making it robust.
The simple paper building blocks that they made are a great way to demonstrate engineering for children. They took a material that is weak, they measured and folded it into a triangles and suddenly they were building large structures.
We have begun our study of William Shakespeare's play Macbeth. As part of our initial work, we acted out the key scenes to gain a real insight into the plot as a whole. The children seemed to enjoy being the dead bodies!
Over the last two weeks, they have started to become much more familiar with the Elizabethan verse that much of the play is written in, and looked at the context behind the witches; beliefs and superstitions. We will produce News reports and some creative writing too.
As we enter the third week of clubs, the children within the Infant Department are enjoying all of their after school activities. Whether it is outdoor or indoor fun on offer, Class One and Two pupils are soaking up the new experiences and learning lots of new skills. I have been very impressed by the positivity of all club members. Here's a glimpse of our youngest handwriters (successfully) attempting their first cursive joins. Thank you to all parents for your very prompt replies at the beginning of term which enabled smooth organisation and membership.
The Under 9 Tag Rugby team made the return trip away to Ayscoughfee on a surprisingly sunny Wednesday afternoon. Both teams had made changes from the previous weeks encounter giving new faces their seasonal debuts. It was the host who started the brighter, scoring 3 tries in quick succession. Under some excellent leadership, a spirited team display saw Grantham Prep get their act together and reduce the deficit to just 2 at the end of the first half. In the second half Grantham managed to continue to play as a team creating plenty of opportunities and running in five more tries and showing some great skills, not only in attack but also defensively managing to stop the attacks of the opposition. In the end the slow start would go on to cost the team in a 13-9 defeat however there were certainly many positives to take forward to the next game.
Team: Dante, Austen, Jai, Gabriel, Finley, Theo, Taseen, Freddie.
Tries: Finlay (x3), Gabriel (X2), Theo (x2), Taseen, Freddie.

U11 Netball v Ayscoughfee Hall
This week saw the return match to last weeks Ayscoughfee encounter with our U11 Girls heading off to Spalding. Despite a couple of hours of horrendous weather the sun was out and it had heat! First quarter both shooters had their eyes in early and both Hattie and Aurore found the net with only one reply from our hosts. Having lost heavily last week this was a huge turnaround and gave the girls confidence to push on further. Despite some last minute stretch defending from Evelyn and dynamic centre play from Alisha alas the hosts surged ahead in each of the next three quarters scoring in each one and running out winners 6 goals to 2. The girls battled very well, created many chances that were only a whisker away from going in and really showed their desire to compete well and wanted so much to win the game. Congratulations to all the players who had listened carefully in training this week and showed some great strides forward from last week.
Cross Country at Wellow.
The first Cross Country challenge of the season got underway this week at Wellow House School on a near perfect day for running. The U9 Girls team were in action first and they set a blistering pace. Pippa was 2nd, Lily May 4th, Mya 5th, Katherine 12th and Phoebe 18th which was enough to secure victory in the team challenge. With high expectations in every boys heart after their friends set a wonderful marker only Theo medalled in 2nd place. There were some fabulous personal best runs from the boys in particular Carlos representing the school in his first sport. The U11 Girls were full of beans on the start line and started with a furious pace. Hattie ran strongly finishing one better than her wee sister in 1st place closely followed by Ellie (8th), Phoebe (9th) and Tessa (20th). This was enough to give the girls a well deserved second overall place in the team challenge. The U11 Boys were the final team to set off on the testing course and were hoping to emulate their younger colleagues. Alas only Captain William was in a striking distance of a medal (12th) closely followed by Charlie (18)
Congratulations to all those children who represented the school so admirably this week and we are already looking forward to the next challenge at Brooke Priory next week.

U11 Hockey v Witham Hall
The U11 girls had a very enjoyable game of hockey against Witham Hall School. It gave the girls the opportunity to practice penalty corners and learn some tactical game play.
Marianna was nominated “player of the match” by the Witham girls.
The team played four ten minute quarters, which gave us plenty of time to discuss all aspects of the game. It was lovely to see the girls development throughout the match.
Final score 1:1
Well done to all who played.

We started this school year with a very special new member ... Pepper! It is a robot capable of interacting with students and reacting to a series of commands. Pepper will receive visitors and show the most remarkable elements of the School and both children and adults will enjoy it.
But Pepper is much more than this. It is a firm commitment to school robotics and to the exploration on how artificial intelligence improves the learning of our students.
In addition, Pepper is a programmable robot and, as you may know, ours is a leading school as far as Coding is concerned. Our students will be able to program behaviors and actions of this fantastic robot, with which they will be able to focus on robotics from a totally real scope.

What a busy week in Grade 1D!
The transition from Kindergarten to First Grade is a big step for any child. Last week Grade 1D was learning what it means to be part of the “big school”! The children leave behind much of the play time of Kindergarten; there are a lot more classes, they are surrounded by more students and they have many teachers for different subjects. That is a lot of things to get use to!
Our newest elementary students received their first school diary and that was exciting. It is their job to place the ruler on the correct date and they are responsible for making sure the diary comes to school every day and returns home at the end of the day. It is in this diary that their first test scores will be recorded. They prepared their notebooks for each subject and the routines, expectations and rules of the class were explained. However, we did make sure we had time for games. We played a team building game because it is important that the students understand that the class is a team and we work together to be the best we can be. We also played the game “Me Too” during Social Studies which showed the students that although we are all special and unique we also have many similarities. Finally, they learned and recited the poem “I can be a Pal” and they discovered that ‘pal’ is another word for ‘friend’.
It was a great start to the year and Ms. Daniela was very happy!
