Dear Neighbor,
By now, everyone who reads my newsletters or sees me on TV knows how serious I am that now is the time to address gun violence in Kansas City and the rest of our state. We need to stop this epidemic of the needless loss of human lives.
Getting a flu shot or vaccinations is preventive medicine for illnesses. Gun violence is now an epidemic in our country and we need preventive medicine to help. There is no quick fix to gun violence, but we have to start now to keep from it spreading even further.
We need everyone to work together to come up with a cure. There are too many innocent victims of this disease.
Each time one of these tragic incidents occur, a dialogue begins, but it seems little is done. Sitting around doing nothing helps no one.
You would not want to travel to another state or country if you knew they had an epidemic or crisis. Well, do you think people want to come to our city or our state if they hear of our epidemic? FBI statistics note that St. Louis and Kansas City rank one and two in the 10 most dangerous cities in the Midwest. As a member of the Tourism Commission and Ranking Member on the Special Committee on Tourism, I want people to know that we are doing something about this gun violence disease to keep it from spreading. We don't need it to be any more contagious than it already is.
This has to be a team effort to alleviate this serious problem. As my mom always told me, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." Our state is weak on gun laws and is in need of some common-sense gun legislation. I don't want to take away anyone's second amendment rights, I just want to stop the taking away of people's rights to a life. Can we legislate morality? No, but we need to move in the right direction to stop the proliferation of gun violence.
THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU TAKE A LIFE - PUT DOWN THE GUN!
It's easier to stop something from happening in the first place than to repair the damage after it has happened.

When can I get one?
Customers were able to apply for a REAL-ID compliant Missouri driver license or nondriver ID card beginning March 25, 2019. HOWEVER, your Missouri-issued license or ID card that was issued prior to March 25, 2019, will give you the same access as a REAL ID-compliant license or ID card until October 1, 2020.

FROM: Det. Kevin Boehm, Crime Stoppers Coordinator
SUBJECT: Reward Increase – 9 Year Old Dominic Young Homicide
KANSAS CITY, MO --- The Kansas City, Missouri Police Department and the Greater KC Crime Stoppers TIPS Hotline continue to seek information in the January 20, 2018 homicide of 9 year old Dominic Young Jr. at 71 Highway and Emanuel Cleaver II Blvd.
Dominic Young Jr. was apparently hit by a stray gunshot while occupying a vehicle driven by his father and died as a result of his injuries. Dominic, his father and brother were en route to Grandview at the time. The vehicle driven by Dominic’s father was hit by gunshots from other vehicles apparently engaged in a gunfight according to statements.
KCPD found a possible crime scene near the intersection where the father said the shooting happened. When the father arrived home in Grandview, Dominic was not responsive. Grandview police initially responded to the father’s home and found the boy in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
A number of community leaders and organizations including State Representative Richard Brown, Mayor Pro Tem Kevin McManus, former City Councilmen Scott Taylor, Scott Wagner, John Sharp; the City of KCMO and Concord Fortress of Hope Church (Pastor Ron Lindsay) have come forward to increase the existing reward in the case up to $30,000.00. Those leaders are available for comment in regard to the case.
