Participant Supplies

Most tools and supplies (Isopropyl Alcohol, Blending Solution, blending tools and pads for alcohol inks, palettes, solvent ink pads, Canned Air Duster, etc.) are available for purchase from Crop A While on or before the Workshop on September 28, 2019.

What You Must Bring:
  • Dotting Tool (also known as a stylus or flower shaping tool).  Most of these tools are metal and have two different sizes of balls on either end.
  • Isopropyl Alcohol (at least a 91% solution) – you will need no more than 6 ounces. As a workshop participant, you will be provided with a dispenser for the isopropyl alcohol, suitable for a featured technique in this workshop.
  • Blending Solution (also known as Alcohol Ink Extender) – you will need no more than 6 ounces.
  • Alcohol Ink Blending Tool and disposable alcohol ink pads.
  • Palette to hold drops of ink.You may wish to use a palette especially made for alcohol inks and solvents. Alternately, you may wish to use disposable plastic wrapping or packaging material as your palette.
  • Solvent Ink pad (preferably black). There are several brand names for this permanent, waterproof ink, including Archival and Spectrum Noir.
What You May Wish to Bring:
  • Alcohol ink colours of your choice. You will be provided with a few .5-ounce bottles of ink to keep, but you’re also welcome to bring additional alcohol ink from your collection for your own use.
  • Apron, smock, or other clothing that may become stained during the workshop.
  • Disposable gloves to protect your hands from alcohol ink stains or for those whose skin is sensitive to isopropyl alcohol or solvent based ink.
  • Hand sanitizer (with alcohol) to reduce/remove ink stains from skin.
  • Lazy Susan (turntable) for use with alcohol ink. There will be limited number available to borrow at Crop A While on a first come, first served basis. (We have checked around and Canadian Tire has a bamboo version for around $15 and apparently Dollar Tree has glass ones)
  • Substrate suitable for alcohol ink.You will be provided with samples of three types of alcohol ink-friendly substrates to use during the workshop, but you’re welcome to bring your own synthetic paper (i.e., Yupo, Duralar, Craft Plastic) and coated paper that is formulated for Alcohol Ink (i.e., Ranger Alcohol Ink Cardstock).
If after reviewing this information you have questions regarding the supplies for this workshop, please e-mail your question(s) to Kathryn at: KathrynKanadian@gmail.com
