17th Sunday after Pentecost

This Sunday as we celebrate World Communion Sunday all the Discipleship classes will gather together in the Sunday School Hall at 9:30am for an intergenerational sharing of the story of the Sadako Sasaki who survived the bomb that fell on Hiroshima. Sadako and her family survived, but 10 years later she was striken with leukemia. In Japan the crane is a symbol of long life and it is said that if you fold a thousand paper cranes you will be granted your wish for health. Sadako folder over a thousand cranes, but on October 1955, she died. Join us as we read the hauntingly beautiful book, Peace Crane, by Sheila Hamanaka and participate in activities (including making our own peace cranes!) that help us reflect on communion, community, and unity.

Sunday, October 20
An exciting new fall event is happening! We’re sponsoring a "Friends and Family Sunday" - a light-hearted worship service followed by a "tail-gate" themed Fellowship Hour. This is going to be an easy and fun way to invite friends and family for worship, talking about the joys and comforts of community and being together - an ode to Homecoming-style services. This event will highlight our thoughts on how true community is not just about an hour on Sunday - it's about the connections throughout the week. Pastor Andy and Romain Alexander will be the announcers for the service. Tracey Lewis, Stephanie Hinson, and Ingrid Dark will be the tailgate hosts. For your part, you can sport your favorite jersey to church, and bring your favorite game day appetizer! And we’ll make it easy to invite your friends and family with some free game tickets that we will be handing out in the Sunday service. Bring your friends, your family, your appetite, and your enthusiasm, and let’s have a great day together!

Peace tips that we can live by for . . .
Peace in the World
On this Sunday, October 6, we will celebrate World Communion Sunday. On that day, let us try to learn a little bit more about other Christians all over the world. As we take Communion at Hanover, let us expand our vision to take in all those Christians who are taking Communion this day in their countries. Pray for them. Pray for Peace in their parts of the world. Pray for peace and justice for everyone, everywhere.
