Finding Light in the Darkness
Autumn arrives and we begin our journey into fall. As sunset comes ever earlier in these months that lead to December, I remember a scene from last winter:

Around a table at El Maguey
    (one of our favorite spots).
A warm place in the early dark of December.
I had a Burrito To Go—
misnamed because I always eat it there.
There are so few lights on the peninsula at night;
much more darkness
as raccoons meander across untraveled roads.
Waves lap empty beaches
depositing bits of sea glass and trash.
Winds blow through the bayside pines
and old houses decay into dust
        so slowly.
All the more precious the table around which we sat,
    we five.
Sharing notes and news
    but sheltered by a light
        that pervades it all.
There is no darkness the light doesn’t touch.

Here’s wishing you the experience of God’s light at all the tables you gather around.  --Stand firm, Alex

Can you help?
School age children of Spanish-speaking migrants and immigrants often come from families who do not speak English sufficently to help them with their homework.  Please prayerfully consider volunteering.  Make this a church group outreach!  There is no better feeling than seeing them come to you to proudly show you their grades!

Currently, volunteers for Una Familia are needed on Tuesdays at Onley Baptist Church in Onley, VA.  Times are 3:30-5:45 pm.  Contact Rev. Veronica Barrell for more information at unafamilia2013@gmail.com or 804-304-0646. Website: www.unafamiliaesva.org
