Executive Director's Corner

WELCOME! We are excited to introduce you to the first edition of our new and improved Safe Place Ministries Newsletter!

We hope to use this forum to keep you up to date on what is going on in the ministry as well as to give you more opportunities to be involved. Safe Place Ministries, SPM, is a unique place with a unique mission. It is our prayer that through the combined efforts of all of us we can offer hope and healing to those impacted by abuse and destructive relationships.

A Teaching Moment

Did you know that October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month? It is often easy to dismiss abuse as an event that happens rarely (or less often) in Christian culture. If only that were so! Unfortunately, abuse is represented in our churches with exactly the same statistics as in secular society! Consider the following:

  • 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have experienced rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner (CDC, 2010).
  • Nearly half of both women and men in the U.S. have experienced psychological aggression by an intimate partner in their lifetime (CDC, 2010).
  • 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually abused before they turn 18 years old (NSVRC).
  • Every 98 seconds an American is sexually assaulted (RAINN, 2019).

We are always looking for ways to assist and bless clients and their families. Some ways you can help is by providing gift cards for haircuts, fuel, oil changes or a quick dinner such as Subway or Pizza. You would be amazed what a blessing it is for clients to be able to treat their kids to a quick dinner and time at the park while they are experiencing times of crisis!
