It's Domestic Violence Awareness Month!
A Note From Our Executive Director

Dear Friend of Catalyst,

Many of you know that Catalyst has a set of values that we work from every day.  As the weather changes and we enter the fall season, I can’t help but spend some time ruminating our particular value of Gratitude.  I think it’s important to take stock of those things for which we are truly grateful.

I am thankful for the board, staff and volunteers who show up every day to ensure that survivors of domestic violence get the services they need to heal from trauma and abuse.

I am appreciative for you and your support- whether it is providing a meal for our shelter, donating your time and talent, or writing a check; we could not accomplish what we do without you.

And most importantly, I am grateful for the people who trust us enough to reach out for help during some of the most difficult times in their lives.

In this newsletter, you will read about the many ways you can continue to support the work that we do, including attending an event for Domestic Violence Awareness Month, sponsoring a family for our annual Adopt-A-Family gift giving program, applying to our January volunteer training class, and more.

With a grateful heart,
Anastacia

We are lucky to serve a community full of people who care so passionately about healthy relationships. At Catalyst, one of our core values is gratitude. As an expression of this value, Catalyst created the Outstanding Community Advocate Award, given each October to a Butte County citizen who works to reduce the incidence of intimate partner violence in their community.

Do you know someone who should be celebrated for their commitment to the health of Butte County? Nominate them today! We are currently accepting nominations through this Friday at 9:00 am.

In order to be considered, the nominee must be at least 18 years or older, must work or reside in Butte County, and cannot be a current Catalyst staff member, intern, or volunteer. Simply click here to submit your brief nomination (one page max).

Ways to Support Catalyst
Adopt-A-Family
Looking to spread some holiday cheer? Each year, we host an Adopt-A-Family Program for our families during the holiday season. Without this program, many survivors of domestic violence participating in our services would not be able to provide gifts for their families.

You can participate in our Adopt-A-Family program this year by choosing one of the following donation options:
  1. Adopt an entire family, which means we would send you a wish list compiled by the family, or families, and you can do the shopping yourself.
  2. Donate cash or gift cards to Catalyst which allows our staff to shop and make purchases according to the sponsored family’s needs.
  3. Donate new, unwrapped items such as wrapping paper, toys, and/or clothing which will be distributed to families who may not have been specifically adopted by anyone. Some of our donors have even thrown parties or hosted events asking that attendees bring gifts for families and kids!
If you are interested in helping a family this holiday season, please contact Carolina at (530) 343-7798 or email her at carolina@catalystdvservices.org
AmazonSmile
While we always support shopping locally, if you choose to do your holiday shopping on Amazon, consider using AmazonSmile. AmazonSmile is a simple and automatic way for you to support your favorite charitable organization every time you shop, at no cost to you. When you shop at smile.amazon.com, you’ll find the exact same prices, selection and shopping experience as Amazon.com, with the added bonus that Amazon will donate 0.5% of the purchase price to us! The purchase price is the amount paid for the item minus any rebates and excluding shipping & handling, gift-wrapping fees, taxes, or service charges.
Volunteering at Catalyst
Congratulations to our most recent graduating class of volunteers! We are so excited for all that they will bring to this work. We couldn't do it without them!
If you would like to apply to volunteer, our next training class will be held for 2 weeks from January 6th - January 16th, Monday-Thursday 9:30-4:30pm.

If you are interested and available, please click here to learn more.
Relationship Growth
Discussing your thoughts and feelings with your partner can strengthen your relationship. We include a few questions in every newsletter that allow you to deepen the connection you have with your partner. These questions are from Hold Me Tight: Seven Conversations for a Lifetime of Love (2008) by Dr. Susan Johnson
  • What messages about love/marriage did you get from your parents? Your community? Was being able to reach for and trust others seen as a strength and a resource?
  • Name two very concrete and specific things that a safe, accessible, responsive, and engaged lover in a relationship with you would do on a typical day and how those things would make you feel at the moment.
  • When you feel disconnected or alone in your present relationship, are you likely to get very emotional or even anxious and push your partner to respond? Or are you more likely to shut down and try not to feel your need to connect? Can you think of a time when this happened?
