Activity Reminder - Help with a New Mural
Meeting this Saturday, the 12th at 10 am. Meet outside The Bothy, 26b Gilmerton Dykes Street
This month we have changed our activity. We are currently working on decorating the bridge at Gilmerton Dykes Street with a new mural. Please help us if you can. There will be paint, so please dress appropriately. See the poster below for this and next month's activities.
The Friends group has been working with the support of Jessica Morgado to improve the bridge at Gilmerton Dykes Street. The project has been lucky enough to secure the talents of artist Kate George. The bridge has been subject to extensive grafitti in the past and we were fortunate to get help from the council to paint over that, but ideally we want to ensure that the area underneath the bridge looks welcoming and attractive for all park users.
Kate has drawn up a great mural design (see below) which will be interpreted and delivered with the help of local children and residents. The project has been funded by the council through a grant from the South East Localities Events Fund, and it's a great opportunity to involve local residents and children in a project with a lasting benefit for the park and for the local area.
It's been a very tight timescale, so we've had to postpone the walk that was planned for the weekend - apologies for that, in order to put undercoat on the bridge to be ready for the coming activities that are planned to realise the vision for an attractive mural in place of some unsightly (and at times vandalised) corrigated iron.
So, come along and join in what will be a great fun activity and will really help make the park an even better and more vibrant place. And if you can make any of the other activity days you'll be more than welcome then as well.
