General Announcements

Meet our New Teachers (II)

Jordi Ballester (Alicante, Spain)

Mr. Ballester is the most recent addition to the ASV Athletic Department and he will be working as Physical Education Teacher in Middle School. Mr. Ballester grew up in Alicante, the southern part of Comunitat Valenciana, but moved to the United States of America when he was 19 years old to study at Jacksonville University (Florida) and play college tennis.  After graduating in Science in Physical Education and complete a Master's in Educational Leadership he moved to New York City to work at the John McEnroe Tennis Academy and as a PE Teacher in a public school. “I find that teaching positive behaviors and healthy habits to youngsters is one of the most rewarding experiences in my life,” he commented to ASV Voices. Mr. Jordi is “extremely thankful to the warm welcome by the whole ASV community since day 1. They have all been very supportive, caring, professional, and the school atmosphere is very motivating,” he said.

Jake Netherton (Oklahoma, United States)

Mr. Netherton has joined our school to teach English in High School.  He comes to ASV after four years teaching English in Denver, Colorado to middle school aged students.  “So far, the transition to Valencia has been incredible! I have enjoyed wandering the streets of the city and spending time at the beach,” he described to ASV Voices.  “The ASV community has been overwhelmingly welcoming, and I’m thankful for the opportunity to be a part of this staff. I look forward to a fantastic year with students here at ASV!”

MAP Testing for Grades 3 - 10

ASV has begun the Fall testing of the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) test, which is administered twice annually to all ASV Grade 3-10 students. Find on the Parent Resources Website a note describing how ASV uses the information provided by this test and some reminders for students and parents.

Call for Parent Delegates

Each class in each grade level at ASV is offered the opportunity to select a Parent Delegate. The Parent Delegate’s role is to attend monthly meetings with the appropriate Principal, communicate information to parents, share concerns of parents (prior to meetings), assist with preparations for special events, and support ASV's mission.

The period to volunteer is up and running and we still have spots in some classes in all the school divisions (Preschool to High School). If you would like to be a  parent delegate, please inform the office by completing this online form (https://forms.gle/thLxSuSTMqhozjgF9) no later than Monday, September 30, 2019 at 16:30.

The school will announce the Parent Delegate list during the first week of October 2019. The first meetings will be on:

  • Monday, October 21, 2019, at 15:15 1 (Preschool and Elementary School).
  • Wednesday, October 30, 2019, from 15:30 to 16:15 (Middle School and High School).

Preschool and Elementary School

Security Patrol

Safety Patrol has gotten off to a strong start with 21 students who were trained in the spring and are ready to go!  Our Safety Patrol is a student leadership arm of our PBIS work -- the patrols notice students who are demonstrating our ASV CARE values on the playground.  The first set of 2019-2020 Safety Patrol Captains have been creating schedules, organizing clipboards, and helping to provide positive feedback to our students.  Thank you, Safety Patrol!

Student Council Elections

Grades  4 and 5 have chosen their class representatives after their poster campaigns and delivering their speeches to their classes.  Congratulations to all candidates for their efforts, and congratulations to this year’s representatives.  Thank you in advance for your leadership!

Undergraduate Students from American Universities Choose ASV

The ASV community gives a warm welcome to Rafael Botello, an undergraduate student from University of Northern Colorado, who will stay in our school doing the required professional training to become a certified teacher. Mr. Botello  will stay ten weeks collaborating with Ms. Kornobis, in 4 Blue, in the regular school work.

Four more student-teachers -this group currently studying at the University of Kentucky, will join our community on October 14.

Parent Reading Volunteers

The Reading Volunteers Program in Grades 1, 2 and 3 is starting soon. We already have two parents volunteering but any other member of our community is welcomed to join. Our teachers are very happy to have once again this resource and want to highlight the great benefit of this routine.

Middle School and High School

Middle and High School Parents Night

This week a large number of families of students in Middle School and High School attended the annual orientation activity known as Parents Night. The event, held on Thursday, September 26, from 17:30 to 21:00, had general presentations in the theater and the dining hall and specific talks in different classrooms. Although students in these grades are expected to work independently and manage themselves parents learned about curriculum, standards, testing procedures, and e-learn platforms (mainly Google Classroom) used in each course.

Reminder on the PE Uniform

Every student is expected to be wearing the new PE uniform by the beginning of October. Some families may have not purchased yet because they are unsure about the right size: please contact Mr. Andy Ojelade if you would like the opportunity to try sizes or have any other issues related to purchasing the uniform.

Student Council Election Assembly

High School held the Student Council election week. Three seniors ran for the position of President and a student in Grade 9 did so for Grade 9 representative. On Wednesday they participated in an open forum activity; on Thursday the advisory assembly was arranged for speeches and voting. Results will be communicated next week.

Getting Ready for the Race against Hunger

On Monday, September 23, the students in Grade 12 following the IB Diploma Program had a meeting with a representative of Acción contra el hambre in order to start planning the Race against Hunger, a charity event promoted by this NGO among schools and other communities.

As the name suggests, the event is a race -in this case within the school campus- in which each student gives a donation according to the number of laps completed. Students in grade 7 and 8 will be invited to join under the guidance of our seniors, as part of their IB CAS program.

Athletics and Extracurricular Activities

DELF Preparation

We would like to confirm that the French DELF B1 preparation course will begin next week on Thursday, October 3, 2019, this group is now closed. The DELF B1 course will be held every Thursday after school at 16:30 to 18:00 from October 2019 to January 2020.

The French DELF B2 preparation course has not reached the minimum number of students yet and could be cancelled. On October 2, 2019 we will close the DELF B2 registration for the first group and contact the registered families with the details. The DELF B2 preparation registration for classes in February-May 2020 will continue to be open until January 2020.

If you are interested in your child attending the DELF preparation courses, please go to the following links: Grades 9-10 and Grades 11-12. We want to remind all students and families that we have a second DELF preparation course from February-May 2020.

ASV+ Registration

The extracurricular activities program remains open throughout the school year with the available placements in different activities from PK2 to Grade 12. You can find all the links to the forms in the ASV webpage.

ASV Playing Outfits

If your child is registered to an athletic activity and wants to participate in friendly games and tournaments it is compulsory for them to wear the ASV athletic Outfit. If they have their outfit students can wear it for ASV+ training sessions, but NOT for PE.

Please make sure you order your child’s playing outfit in advance as SVELTO takes 2-3 weeks to send the outfits. Please fill in THIS form as soon as possible. The sizes correspond to the PE outfit, although the Basketball outfit we find its a bit longer, both t-shirt and pants; and the Volleyball outfit is a bit tighter; we recommend to buy one more size than the PE outfit.

All students who have the outfit from 2018-19 don’t have to buy a new one as we are using the same.

ASV+ Fees

The Business Office will send the September 2019  invoice of ASV+ together with the October invoice during the first week of October. The remaining months the invoices will be monthly and sent together with the school regular monthly fee.

DELF preparation October invoices will be sent in mid October, once the groups have been confirmed.

School Office

Official Documents on School Fees

The Business Office invites ASV families  to check out the official documentation describing the school fees and payments, which is available both on the ASV website and the Parent Resources Google Site. You will find the details of the fees and concepts that will be billed during the new school year. Other concepts are not detailed yet since they correspond to activities and products that you voluntarily request and whose content is informed during the course of the course (for example, yearbooks, trips, ...)

We remind you that the first receipt of the 2019-2020 academic year has been issued this week. As of October, regular invoices will be made the first week of the month.

In any case, receipts have to be paid before the week after the billing by the means established and authorized by the school. For your convenience and for security reasons, we would appreciate your direct payment (giving our bank account data) or deposit into the school account. In both cases, please contact Mr. Alfredo Querol (Operations Manager) by emailing him to alfredoquerol@asvalencia.org. Mr. Querol will inform you properly about the procedure to follow and the necessary data.

Continuity Insurance

The school offers a student continuity insurance policy, which provides for the continual payment of your child’s required school fees in the event of death or permanent and absolute disability. Families can read on this section of the Parent Resources website an informative letter describing the extent of this policy.

Please, note that parents being 65 years old on August 31, 2019 must contact Alfredo Querol to be informed about the limitations.
