THANKS FOR THIS CHANCE TO SHARE OUR NEWS!

We hope you had a great summer!

We have been receiving wonderful reports from Kulusum Hasakya at URDT. This photo shows the new e-learning impetus on campus. We are inspired to see this venture underway. Next comes a story by us about Kulusum, with thanks to her for all she is doing to keep us connected. Also, take a quick peek at Peace Week, URDT’s cervical cancer screening and prevention work, and ARU’s visit from Professors Without Borders. Stay tuned for a SAVE THE DATE for our Annual Dinner, which will be in early spring. Of course, many of you make donations at year end. THANK YOU for your generous ongoing support of URDT and ARU. Yours and our investments are yielding fantastic returns!

URDT Fundraising Directorate Established

We are pleased to announce the establishment of a Fundraising Directorate at URDT, headed by Kulusum Haskaya. This important step is key to URDT's sustainability. Kulusum has held many positions over the years at URDT including Girls School Art Teacher, Head Teacher, and head of the URDT Education Directorate, overseeing 5 schools. Also, she has led the effort - collaborating with Martha Dolben - to establish the URDT/ARU Women's Studio, housing Women's Learning and Leadership Circles.

We wish Kulusum the best of luck as she sets forth in this new position. We are so proud of her past accomplishments and are confident her future is bright in her new role!

URDT Celebrates International Day of Peace

Over 1228 people participated in URDT's series of events during this September's International Day Of Peace. The theme of this year's Peace Walk was "Climate Action For Peace". Dialogues between community members and officials, and other events, aired and were publicized on Kagadi Kibaale Community Radio and TV West in the Western Region, and Akabozi Kubbiri radio station and Radio One station in the Central Region.

As URDT thoughtfully summarized in their event recap, "The nexus between climate actions and peace is high; this touches people’s lives and rights directly in terms of access to clean and safe water, supply of oxygen, absorption of carbon dioxide, protection of wild life, changes in weather conditions, preservation of soils, regulation of the spread of air borne diseases, security and harmonious living in communities."

URDT Epicenters Host Ishaka Health Plan Team

URDT has screened over 6000 women for cervical cancer in Kagadi District. On September 16th and 17th, URDT hosted a team of 3 members from Ishaak Health Plan (IHP) on recommendation by Female Cancer Foundation to learn about best practices and to discuss URDT’s methodology and approach to health issues.

The IHP team leader, Mr. Tumuhimbise Manessar, praised URDT for being innovative and acting as a satellite and center of excellence in a rural community. He appreciated the integrated approach that URDT uses and was impressed by the visionary process to create health and other important life goals.
