ASTEROID DAY HIGHLIGHTED EVENT

The Asteroid Day Potosí Bolivia 2019 was hosted at the SOS Children's Villages on June 28 and 29. Organized by the The Kuiper Palatine Geology Club in association with the Geological Engineering degree at the Tomás Frías Autonomous University, the two days of scientific dissemination aimed at children belonging to the Reception Center.

The event included informative talks, observations with telescopes, dynamics and interactive scientific videos. It also featured prestigious academic presenters, such as: Ing. Eddy Arancibia, Ing. Federico Anaya, Lic. Edwin Barañado, Univ. Fabricio García and Univ. Helen Moreira and whose presentations were related to asteroids.

Also present were members of the Kuiper Planetary Geology Club and the Galileo Galilei Astronomy Club, such as Paola Martínez, Cristhian Díaz, Eddy Martínez, Brisa Maquera, Juan Choque and Edson Benitez. On the last day of the event, Eleco Artistic El Sol performed a puppet theater (Direction: Juan Ameller, Actresses: Telma Amezaga, Samanta Vitória and Lizet Soto), with the theme "The extinction of dinosaurs".

A recent graduate from the Metropolitan State University of Denver, Katie Young was an Asteroid Day LIVE intern in Luxembourg this past June. She served as a video production assistant to Grig Richters while running the social media for Asteroid Day leading up to 30, June. We were so impressed with Katie after Asteroid Day, we brought her onto the team to run social media and assist with communications.

Professor Richard Crowther is Chief Engineer at the UK Space Agency and Visiting Professor within Engineering and the Environment at the University of Southampton. He was Head of the Space Technology Division at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory until 2008 with primary research interests in man-made orbital debris, planetary protection, and near Earth objects (asteroids and comets that pass close to the Earth).
He is currently Head of the UK delegations to the Inter-Agency Debris Committee and the United Nations Committee on Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UN COPUOS). Professor Crowther also leads the UK delegation to the European Space Agency’s International Relations Committee, and Space Situational Awareness Programme Board.
