As I write this, I am coping with the death of Susan Sanger, beloved member of Calvary and the director of Angel Network Charities. Besides Susan's death, Karen and I recently learned of two young men from a previous congregation, struck down in the prime of life. We have plenty of company out there. Every day you are inundated with your own personal suffering and the horrendous stuff happening throughout the world. If we only knew the pain and hurt that came through our doors for worship on a Sunday morning, we'd be stunned and dumbfounded.

That's why it's important to come together so that we can hear and tell and retell the story of God's vision for our world because this vision empowers us to live faithfully amid all that we face. It encourages us to be strong and tough in turbulent times. It reminds us that God is with us through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ working to bring life and salvation and empowering us to live faithfully as God's people in every trial and hardship.

Therefore, we give our lives to each other; we hold each other; and we pray for each other. We care for one another. And we are a sign and a story testifying to the presence of Jesus for one another even when tribulations turn our world upside-down. I'll see you in worship because I need you to be there for me and for one another.
