Our new season is ready to start with Michael Close's lecture on Monday night.

Monday, September 30, 2019
7:00 PM
The Imperial Pub (54 Dundas Street East, Toronto)

If you have not yet renewed online, we encourage you to come early, we can get that lineup sorted out. We also encourage you to come early for 6:00 PM and we will all have an opportunity to catch up and swap stories from the summer before the lecture gets underweay.

Michael has asked us to remind everyone that there is an interactive compoment to the lecture you can participate in if you bring a tablet. (iPad or Android device that can read eBooks.) I've been told that a phone will work, however the small screen size will produce a greatly reduced sense of life-affirming warm fuzziness. And a dedicated eBook reader like a Kindle would not work.

Our elves have been hard at work getting the website - www.ibmring17.com - up to date. And we are pleased to announce that we are now able to accept online registrations, both for new and returning members.

(If you prefer to register in person, and pay by cash or cheque, you can also print a membership form and bring it with you to save some time. You can register in person at any of our meetings.)

And if you look down the right hand side (or at the bottom if you are on a mobile device) you can find all of the different ways to stay up to date on the most recent news. So you can pick what suits you best and follow us there!
On to the lecture!

Michael is the celebrated author of the Workers series of books and, more recently, The Paradigm Shift. His work blends deviously clever magic tricks and deeply insightful essays about the performance and structure of magic that you can take away and apply towards the magic you already do.

More recently, Michael has been the magic consultant on Penn & Teller: Fool Us. Michael has worked behind the scenes coaching the hundreds of acts that have appeared on the show helping to refine their material to appear on national television.

As many of you know, much of Michael's recent published work has been able digitally - as eBooks or PDFs - and that in addition to text and photos, these books also incorporate video streamed from the internet.

With that in mind, for an extra interactive treat, everyone attending the lecture is invited to bring a tablet or a smartphone. It should have an app that can read eBooks (like iBooks). A dedicated eBook reader like a Kindle, wouldn't work.

If you want to get in the spirit ahead of the lecture. Our own podcasting dynamic duo of Jonah Babins and Tyler Williams interviewed Michael for Discourse in Magic.

It's an hour and a half of great discussion. And if you're not a regular listener to the podcast, it's a great episode to get started with.
