What A Great Time It Was

We just returned from Solar Power International, the largest energy event in North America, and we just want to say: "Wow, what an event it was."

Abby Hopper, the president and CEO of the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), got the event off to a great start by announcing SEIA’s roadmap. “The Solar+ Decade represents opportunity and a paradigm shift as we transform energy use in America,” said Abigail Ross Hopper. “When we hit this goal, by 2030 we will more than double our workforce and add $345 billion in private investment, all while offsetting electricity sector emissions by 35%. But we can’t get there on momentum alone. We’ll need policies, alliances, and action from every member of the industry to make these goals a reality.”

We are prepared for it and we are helping our customers prepare for it. Standard Solar is leading the solar century by providing smart solar electric solutions nationwide.

The most important discussions, however, centered on a critical issue facing the industry in the short term: defending the investment tax credit (ITC). Speaker after speaker impressed upon the attendees that it’s up to us as an industry to fight harder than ever to get the ITC extended by calling our representatives and letting them know how an expiration would affect our businesses.

Finally, we want to congratulate the organizers for putting together another great educational program for SPI—we can't wait to see what you do next year.

This edition includes:
  • How the U.S. stacks up with the UN’s global transition to renewable energy and how we are doing our part;
  • Our Solar Builder Project of the Year Award finalists: Flushing (Michigan) Community Schools and the Western Slope (Colorado) Community Solar projects;
  • Exciting news about our newly-acquired 7-megawatt portfolio of distributed generation solar projects for the Lake Elsinore Unified School District; and
  • A video highlighting our Gallup project, a winner of a 2018 Solar Builder Project of the Year Award.
Enoy!

We’d love your feedback!

Industry Perspective

How Solar Will Help The World Meet Its Climate Goals

The UN Secretary-General António Guterres has identified “a global transition to renewable energy” as a key priority in the fight against climate change. At the UN Climate Action Summit 2019 in New York last month, Guterres called on global leaders to come prepared with concrete plans that went beyond addressing mitigation to a full transformation of economies in line with sustainable development goals.

The summit resulted in several new aggressive commitments to renewable energy and net zero emissions targets.

But how does the United States stack up on solar compared to the rest of the world?

As the world’s largest historical emitter of greenhouse gases, there’s no question that the U.S. should play a leadership role on renewable energy, and at Standard Solar, we’ve been proud to be part of the solution.

City of Gallup, New Mexico—2018 Solar Builder Project of  the year Finalist

Last year our City of Gallup, New Mexico solar project was voted a finalist for the Solar Builder Project of the Year. The land for this project was located in a 100-year-floodplain, which meant designing a system to withstand the conditions created by a flood of that magnitude. Check out our video about this exciting project!
