 Outdoor Classroom Day
Is a day to celebrate and inspire outdoor learning and play. On Thursday, 7 November, schools around Australia will take lessons outside and prioritise playtime. Nature Play WA are leading the campaign in WA, and they are asking as many parents, schools and early learning centres as possible to register. Outdoor learning improves children’s health, engages them with learning and leads to a greater connection with nature. Play not only teaches critical life skills such as  resilience, teamwork and creativity, but is central to children’s enjoyment of childhood. If you're a parent, you can download our letter for schools, to share Outdoor Classrooom Day information with your child's school. If you're an educator, sign up your school or early learning centre to take part, and show your commitment to taking learning outdoors!

How To Celebrate Wins When Not Everyone Is Winning!
When you have two or more children in sports, it can be a challenge to give each one the same level of positive attention — especially when one seems to be winning all the time, while the other is struggling. Joel Fish, PhD shares advice on how to find the right balance between celebrating success and prioritising progress rather than just winning -

  • Praise effort, not just results
  • Check your reaction
  • Make sure everyone gets what they need
  • Consider shifting focus to other sports
  • Be mindful of the winning child

NOT-FOR-PROFIT LAW

It's Time to Move to Single Touch Payroll (STP)

STP changes the way you report your employees' tax and super information to the ATO. You now need to report salaries and wages, pay as you go (PAYG) withholding and super information to the ATO each time you pay your employeesIf you already use STP-enabled payroll software, start reporting now and you won't have to worry about missing the deadline. If you're not ready you can do one of these three things asap:
•    Go to ato.gov.au/stpsolutions and find a software solution that meets your needs. Once you have a solution you can start reporting.
•    Talk to your tax or BAS agent about concessional reporting options available to you. These options will depend on your individual circumstances.
•    Apply for more time if you won't be able to start reporting by the deadline (30 September 2019). Find out more about deferring your STP reporting.

ATO For Not-For-Profits
The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has a range of resources available specifically designed to assist not-for-profits. Recently they released videos clarifying some common misunderstandings about ABNs when ending an organisation. Visit the ATO website for all your not-for-profit tax questions.

GST On Grants And Donations - Kindly Reminder
The Australian Tax Office says “If your organisation is registered for GST and receives grant funding (e.g. from a government body or philanthropic foundation), it does not have to pay GST on the funding payment.  You only need to pay GST if you make a 'supply' in return for a payment” – which is clearly not the case when you receive philanthropic grants and donations". ATO Guidelines.

ABC Callout For Expert Women Talent - WA
ABC in WA is calling on women from all backgrounds and from across industries to nominate themselves for inclusion in our growing database of expert talent. This database is used extensively by ABC interview producers, talent bookers and journalists across News, Radio and Regional in WA and across Australia to identify people to participate in interviews and provide commentary or engage in discussions across our digital and broadcast platforms. If you are a subject matter expert in any topic and identify as a woman, please nominate yourself - and if you have never participated in a media interview or discussion, provided quotes for news reports or written an op-ed before and feel nervous or unsure, please don’t let that be an impediment. The ABC is deliberately looking for fresh, diverse voices and perspectives from all backgrounds to add to its talent pool. All nominees contacted by our experienced producers and talent bookers will be supported through the process. This localised WA callout for talent builds on a successful national callout conducted by the ABC earlier this year. Many women who self-nominated have since participated in ABC interviews and discussions.
