Market on Main Opening in November at 1320 Main Street
|
|
|
Market on Main will bring a combination all-day restaurant, small marketplace, bar, event space, and outdoor dining to the area when it opens in November. It will feature an 18-tap self-pour beer, wine and kombucha wall, a 20-foot LED screen for outdoor viewing of sporting events and movies, an outdoor cooking area and patio, and an elevated stage for local artists.
Originally slated to only be in the space occupied by the recently torn-down House of Fabrics building, the plan has now expanded to include the space vacated by Zoës Kitchen in the adjacent Meridian Building.

New Residential Tower Planned for Lady Street

|
The Arnold Companies, a Columbia-based commercial development firm, announced plans to build the first new residential tower in the central business district of downtown Columbia, located at the corner of Lady and Assembly streets.
The spot previously housed Moe Levy’s and Howard Sports. It will be converted into 83 urban residences known as The Palms on Lady.
Amenities for the new development will include concierge services, covered parking for residents, a fitness center, a Luxor package room, tropical pool, business center, and a luxurious top floor club lounge with a covered balcony. There will be 2,801 sq.-ft. for future restaurant/retail space on the ground floor of the building.

Newsome Law, a solutions-focused tax, estate and trust firm, has relocated to a new office at 1501 Main Street in the TD Bank building on Boyd Plaza, across from the Columbia Museum of Art in downtown Columbia.

Since 2002, CCP’s Yellow Shirts have been providing public safety and improving the cleanliness of the Main Street District. The ambassadors maintain contact with businesses and provide information to visitors, shoppers, workers, and residents; and provide cleaning services for the 36-block district. In 2008, CCP launched its complimentary shuttle, which has increased in popularity over the years.

Take the Free Soda Cap Connector

This fun and festive service connects many popular downtown Columbia destinations, including West Columbia, Cayce, the Main Street District, the Vista, Five Points as well as Segra Park, Allen and Benedict Colleges, and the University of South Carolina. Service operates every 30 minutes on three routes, Sunday–Wednesday 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, and Thursday–Saturday 9:00 am to Midnight. Best of all, the route is FREE! Look for a Soda Cap type sign to board this service.

Van Gogh Makes His Debut at the Columbia Museum of Art on October 4th
|

(Van Gogh Exhibit: October 4 – January 12, 2020)
Van Gogh and His Inspirations is an original exhibition organized by the CMA that brings the work of one of the most beloved artists in the world to Columbia, South Carolina, alongside a variety of handpicked paintings and drawings that shaped his vision.
From 2001 to 2010, as Steven Naifeh and Greg Smith researched their New York Times bestseller Van Gogh: The Life, they built a collection of over 30 works by artists who influenced Van Gogh’s aesthetic thinking. These works join loans from 12 museums across the U.S. to explore the artistic evolution of Van Gogh through the lens of the artists who inspired him.
This exhibition also brings 12 paintings and drawings by Van Gogh, including an outstanding painting of flower fields from the National Gallery of Art, a sensitive painting of a peasant weaving from The Boston Museum of Fine Art, and the world-famous self-portrait from the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art.

Who is City Center Partnership and the BID?

In 2001, City Center Partnership was formed to manage the downtown Business Improvement District in the 36-block area bounded by Gervais, Elmwood, Assembly and Marion streets in Columbia, SC. The organization provides public space management, economic development, place management, marketing services, and public advocacy for the Main Street District.
|
|
The Board of Directors oversee the organization’s mission — to focus on filling vacancies in commercial properties, retaining existing downtown businesses and recruiting new ones, expanding the downtown residential base, and creating a safe, clean, and friendly downtown environment.
