IT'S HAUNTED LIBRARY TIME!
Don't miss out on one of Longview's unique community events.

October is one of our favorite months of the season!
Not only do we turn the entire library into a haunted house, but we've got plenty of fun, festive programs that you won't want to miss.
Indie Author Day. Spooky Stories outside on Eastman Plaza. Smokey the Bear's birthday party.
Something for everyone!

October 18 & 19 (Friday and Saturday), 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Library will be CLOSED those two days. Book drops will remain open. Normal hours/operations start back on Sunday, October 20.


Put on a brave face and venture into the haunted house transformed library!
Will the clowns in the kid's department be too much? Or will the ghouls in the stacks be the one's to get you?
Come see what all the rave is about at one of Longview's unique community event offerings.

We charge a nominal fee for ticket entry.
$2.00 for adults. $1.00 for kids 12 and under.
Because this is considered a fundraiser, no refunds will be issued under any circumstance.
All funds will benefit the Friends of the Longview Public Library and go towards future programming. 

Tickets are on sale now! Get them at the front desk.
Tickets bought before the selected day of the event will have line priority access. But, tickets can be purchased the day of as well. All ticketed patrons be sure to arrive before 7:00 PM to guarantee entry.

All ages welcome, but we do aim to scare at this haunted house! There's lot's of high impact scares, and frightening props/imagery.
So, parents be advised, we recommend ages 10+.

Thursday, October 3

Teens join us the first Thursday of every month to exchange book & movie recommendations, enjoy free snacks with fellow teens, and hear what's happening at the Library and in the community!

This month’s meeting is at Starbucks on 407 W. Loop 281, Longview TX, 75605.
Attendees have a chance to win a giftcard to this location!

Volunteers for Haunted Library MUST attend at least one of these meetings to participate. We’ll go over the layout and different areas, what you’ll be doing, and the rules for Haunted Library. Afterwards, you can take a walk around tour or sign up and pick your area.

You only need to attend one of these orientations. No sign-up required, just pick the one that fits your schedule. But, the sooner you come, the more areas available to sign up for!

Join the Texas A&M Forest Service in the kids department, as they host a fire prevention storytime and celebrate Smokey the Bear's birthday!
A book will be read aloud followed by activities and an appearance by Smokey the Bear himself.

Please join us to celebrate published, local indie authors!
Our special panelists will include:

Kimberly Fish, David Oliver II, C.I. Chevron, Rocky Hawkins, Sally Rose, Heather Mokszycke, and Angelique York.

They'll tell us all about their writing/publishing experience, current works, and answer questions from the audience.

Current (and any future or interested) members of the monthly Writer’s Workshop group are also invited to come have their work read and reviewed after the panel for helpful tips and suggestions!

True Crime Crew will meet on Thursday, October 24, 6:30 PM. A perfect club for all lovers of mystery, suspense, and true crime!
This month’s topic will cover Wayne Williams and the murders he committed 1979 - 1981. Please feel free to bring any discussion materials and questions for the group.

Event is FREE, no registration required.

Pack your blankets, chairs, snacks and courage as we have a screening of “A Quiet Place” (PG-13) out on the Eastman Plaza. FREE popcorn will be served to patrons. It’s the Library version of the drive-in!
In the case of inclement weather the program will be held inside the Library's Moeschle Meeting Room.

Gather out on the Library's Eastman Plaza for a time of spooky stories told aloud while eating s'mores.

Because of the scariness of the stories, this event is recommended for ages 10+.

We've added baking pans to our collection for checkout!

Join the Maker Movement happening all across the globe!
We're happy to now offer baking pans for checkout to patrons who are feeling adventurous in their baking journeys, or might not have the correct type of pan to make something they've always wanted to.

Located in the reference material shelves, there'a multitude of pans and shapes/molds to choose from.

Here are the policies for checking out baking pans:
1. Baking pans will check out for three (3) weeks.
2. Patrons may not check out more than two (2) bags at a time. Each bag may have more than one pan in it. 3. Patrons should return pans and all accompanying pieces in the bags provided, and wash according to handling instructions before returning to the library.
4. A damaged item fee of $5.00 will be charged for dirty baking pans.
5. Pans cannot be placed in the book drop; please return them to the circulation desk.
6. Lost or damaged baking pans (including damage that occurs in the book drop) will result in a replacement fee.

Patrons should be aware, before borrowing from this collection, that the pans and sheets will at some point in their lifespan be exposed to common food allergens, including, but not limited to: peanuts, tree nuts, dairy, eggs, gluten, and soy. Therefore, the staff at Longview Public Library encourages patrons to use caution if a member of your household has a food allergy.

  • Word Basics I & II: Introductory course to Microsoft Word that will teach students how to create and edit a word document, use editing tools like spell check, and insert tables, footers/headers, edit margins, et
October 16, 10:00 AM - 1:30 PM
  • Computer Basics: A beginner’s class for those who have limited or no knowledge of how to use a computer. Class will show students how to use and operate a keyboard and mouse, navigate Windows, and topics related to internet browsing (how to do searches, look up sites, etc.)

October 22 & 24, 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM
  • Basic Excel I & II: Introductory course into Microsoft Excel that focuses on database entry and formula input to make spreadsheets and workbooks.
October 29 & 30, 10:00 AM - 1:30 PM
  • Advanced Excel: In depth class on Microsoft Excel and database/spreadsheet entry. Students will create a variety of charts and tables, use new tools to make entry easier, and learn to merge and share workbooks.

Printed at the bottom of your check out ticket is a new "You Saved" feature that will show patrons how much their total savings are for the year from borrowing books (ILL's and eBooks not incorporated) at the library instead of purchasing them.
