Niagara Falls Farmers Market Temporary Relocation
The Niagara Falls Farmers Market will be temporarily relocating to the MacBain Community Centre parking lot, beginning spring 2020 until October 2020. The relocation is pending the approval of the new Cultural Hub and Farmers' Market project.
MacBain was chosen as the best opportunity to relocate the market in order to provide the vendors with adequate space and to heighten the visibility in the community. There will be adequate space for parking for vendors and customers with access to public washrooms.

John N Allan Park Tennis and Basketball Courts Development
In the 2019 Capital Budget Niagara Falls City Council approved funding to advance the implementation of the recommendations of the City of Niagara Falls Tennis and Basketball Service Delivery Review.
As part of this plan, four (4) new premium tennis courts (with pickleball lines) will be constructed at John N. Allan Park. The existing basketball court at the park will also receive an upgrade and be converted to a full multi-purpose basketball /street hockey court.
The tender for the development was awarded on Tuesday by Council. Work is anticipated to commence this month, with completion in Spring 2020.

5G in the City
On Tuesday, Niagara Falls Council heard from scientist and Chair of Prevent Cancer now, Megan Sears, PhD and Frank Clegg, a former president of Microsoft Canada and founding chief executive officer of Canadians for Safe Technology.
Megan and Frank provided Council with an overview of an open house held on Monday night, where experts discussed wireless radiation and expressed concerns on the health and environmental effects of wireless telecommunications, specifically 5G.
The presentation was received by Council and a motion to have Health Canada officials come before council and provide their perspective on the issue was approved.

Kristen French Child Advocacy Centre

Sarah Pritula and Grant McArthur of Community Crew provided Council with an overview of their program. Community Crew is a non-profit organization that helps children in the Region who have been affected by poverty. View the presentation.

Winter Festival of Lights
Tina Myers, Executive Director of the Winter Festival of Lights (WFOL) addressed Council to recognize the staff from WFOL and their accomplishments over the last few years and to share their recent awards and recognition received. wfol.com

National Disability Employment Awareness
The month of October has been proclaimed at National Disability Employment Awareness Month, acknowledging and celebrating the workplace contributions of people in our City who have a disability, and business successes and benefits stemming from hiring with a focus on diversity and inclusivity.

Fire Prevention Week: October 6 - 12, 2019
The week of October 6 to October 12, 2019 has been proclaimed at Fire Prevention Week in the City of Niagara Falls. This year's theme is "Not Every Hero Wears a Cape. Plan and Practice Your Escape." Steve Ludzik Celebrity Roast: October 18, 2019
Tim Housser, Director of the Steve Ludzik Foundation, spoke to Council asking for their support of the upcoming Steve Ludzik Celebrity Roast, on Friday, October 18, 2019 at Club Italia. The event supports the one of a kind, multidisciplinary Ludzik Parkinson’s Clinic located at Hotel Dieu Shaver Rehabilitation Hospital.

This national environmental campaign builds awareness around sustainable and responsible consumption, and promotes actions that divert more waste from disposal and conserve natural resources.
