On Thursday, September 19 more than 60 people joined us for the official launch of UEDA's Bank On Greater Milwaukee (BOGM) program! We were excited to have the Lt. Governor of the State of Wisconsin, Mandela Barnes, join us to emphasize the importance and need for this local coalition, as well as Paige Diner from the Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund to expand upon the nationwide efforts of the more than 80 active Bank On coalitions across the US. We also featured a Local Coalition Panel where members shared a bit about the initial successes of this coalition, and a vision for the future work of Bank On in our community.

Below please find links to the presentations that were shared, materials distributed, and information requested.
Additionally, Extension Milwaukee County shared with attendees information on an upcoming training opportunity with their Financial Education Program. Individuals who complete this three-part training program (October 7, 14, and 21) will learn how to help individuals and groups set goals, reconcile debt, budget spending, organize financial records, control cash flow, become financially empowered, plan for the future, and save money for important purchases, including their children's post-secondary education. View training flyer here. Extension was able to secure a sponsor to cover the cost of the training, allowing those interested to participate for free. Please visit this website to fill out and submit an application by September 27. Additional questions can be directed to Lilliann Paine at lilliann.paine@wisc.edu or (414) 615-0520.

Join the Bank On Greater Milwaukee Coalition Today!
The goal of Bank On is to ensure that everyone has access to safe and affordable financial products and services. Bank On Greater Milwaukee partners agree that consumers should have access to mainstream banking accounts that allow them to build savings and access credit over time. Partners agree to help improve the financial stability of the unbanked and underbanked residents of our community by:
  • Connecting them to safe and affordable accounts with banks and credit unions;
  • Raising public awareness of these efforts and opportunities;
  • Expanding access to financial education and empowerment opportunities;
  • Working together to minimize barriers to banking access; and
  • Sharing best practices and opportunities to learn from each other
Download and fill out the Bank On Greater Milwaukee Participation Agreement and return to Constance Alberts (constance@uedawi.org) to be listed as an official partner of BOGM.
