Last week at Ivywood both first and second grades discussed the lifecycle of a butterfly. Thursday morning Mrs. Adkins and Ms. Morgan’s classes took a walking field trip to Mrs. Woodall’s classroom to see her final monarch chrysalis before it completed metamorphosis. Six others had already come out and were released into nature.
Friday morning, Mrs. Adkins’ class joined Ms. Morgan’s class outside to release the butterfly into the wild. A special student who has raised monarchs in the past, Allie Garnham, allowed the butterfly to crawl onto a stick where she then lifted it up and it flew away. It was so beautiful and exciting! The students and teachers felt very fortunate to be a part of such a wonderful learning experience.
At Ivywood, all courses of study begin with basic information in multiple forms: phonograms, math facts, maps or butterfly specimens. We are building a foundation for students to gather and interpret knowledge to seek the truth, do the good and love the beautiful. We are inspiring wonder.
Have a great weekend!

Meet our music teacher Jane Ye
Born and raised in China, she moved to New Jersey when she was in high school. With the inspiration from her choral directors, she was encouraged to look into a career in music.
After earning her degree at the University of Michigan, she came to Ivywood to teach! She has an abundance of knowledge in the world of music and a desire to grow and learn with students.
Read more about her passion and desire to be at Ivywood on our blog here.
Grandparents Day was a success
Grandparents were thrilled to be invited into their grandchild's classrooms and enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren. They all felt welcome, said it was well organized and well planned. Many also appreciated the fact that they were given tours by their grandchildren and were impressed with what the school had to offer.
