MAHATMA GANDHI BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

This year, the Asian Studies Center will hold the annual celebration for Mahatma Gandhi's birthday with the theme "Truth, Peace, and Action: Mahatma Gandhi's Legacy at 150." Please join us for refreshments, including chai, and readings by students, inter-faith presentations, and cultural performances. Along with the Asia Studies Center, Carnegie Mellon University and several Pittsburgh organizations will be in attendance. India Consul General Sandeep Chakravorty will unveil a bronze bust of Gandhi that will be permanently displayed in Hillman Library as well. The event will take place on Sunday, October 6 from 2 PM to 5 PM in Frick Fine Arts Auditorium.
ANNOUNCING SCREENSHOT: ASIA 
The Asian Studies Center--in collaboration with the Film Studies Program--is thrilled to announce Screenshot: Asia, its new film and media series and Asian festival. The festival is set to premiere in September 2020. To welcome this new series, we will host a few preliminary screenings during the 2019-2020 academic year. There will be a screening for Nostalgia for the Future on Monday, September 30 from 4:15 PM to 6 PM in 407 Cathedral of Learning. A reception and screening for Dragonfly Eyes will be held on Tuesday, October 8 at 4:30 in Frick Fine Arts Auditorium. A lecture and film screening of Godzilla on My Mind will be on Wednesday, October 16 at 6:30 PM in the WPU Assembly Room
CHINESE LANGUAGE SOCIAL HOUR
Have you ever wanted to learn Chinese, or are you currently enrolled in Chinese language classes at Pitt? Are you a native Chinese speaker looking to practice your English speaking skills? 
Join the Asian Studies Center and English Language Institute (ELI) for our second language social hour of the school year. Our upcoming Chinese Social Hour is a great event for those interested in both Mandarin and Cantonese. The event will be held on Friday, October 4 at 4:30 PM in 4130 Posvar Hall. We will host a Korean Language Social Hour on Friday, October 11 at the same time and location as well. Language social hour events are open to all University of Pittsburgh students, faculty, and staff.

PITT GLOBAL HUB CONTEST
Students who sign-in for at least 15 Global Hub events through the myPittGlobal app or sign-in sheets between September 3rd and October 18th will be automatically entered into the Global Hub contest. The first place prize is a $2,500 study abroad scholarship. Second place will receive a swag bag worth an estimated $250 from the University Store on Fifth, and third place will receive a swag bag worth an estimated $100. Winners will be the top three students who attend the most events. PITT TO YOU APPLICATIONS FOR STUDENT AMBASSADORS

The Pitt to You Program will be accepting student ambassador applications from October 1st to October 22nd. The program is seeking undergraduate sophomores and juniors with at least a 2.5 GPA who are willing to mentor incoming Chinese international students. Student ambassadors will complete training during the academic year and spend ten days during the summer session in Beijing and Shanghai to meet incoming students.
