BIRDS IN THE NEWS

It's been a sobering month for birding news. A new report in Science quantifies a problem observed by avid birders for years: across the board, bird populations in North America are declining. In less than one human lifetime, nearly 30% of birds have disappeared -- and for some species the numbers are much worse. Here's a roundup of the best stories on this groundbreaking paper, and information on what you can do to help.
