Forest Park News
From Principal Lisa Newlyn
09/23/2019
Thank you all for coming to our annual Back to School Picnic and thanks to Claire and the Friends of Forest Park Elementary for making it such a success! It's always wonderful to see our community come together for neighborly conversation on an almost-Fall evening. This year FOFPE planned our Kinder and New Family Social for the same with huge success. One of the best parts of our school community is the way we welcome new families to our school. Thank you FOFPE for making that happen in such an inclusive way!
Tonight FOFPE stands before the board, led by Heidi Hacker and Cheri Bates, to share concerns and elicit Board support for the 2020 bond. Their words and the letter sent to Superintendent Guerrero and the PPS Board represents a great deal of thought and collaboration between parents and our FPE staff. Please take a moment to read the letter, If you can not attend tonight, please plan to attend the next FOFPE meeting, October 17 @ 6:30pm in the FPE Library.
At FOFPE we talk alot about Safety. Since the start of school we've had one fire drill per week. On Friday 09/27 we will conduct a Lockdown Drill with Officer Thomas Hall, our School Resource Officer. Drills and safety practice can be anxiety making for students, however are essential to make sure we are all ready in case something unexpected occurs. Please take a moment and review our PPS Emergency Procedures. Talking with your child now will lesson anxiety in the moment. Fires can be scary, but when we know what to do, we stay safe. Knowing how to be safe reduces anxiety.
Come in, Check in, Badge on. Raptor is helping us in our campus security by creating badges for Visitors and running simple clearance screeners for our Volunteers. Thanks to all of you for coming into the office straight away and getting a badge. Knowing who is on campus is important to me and our staff. It's helps us greet people and be friendly, and make sure strangers without a purpose don't linger.
Wondering how your child did on last year's SBAC testing in Math and Language Arts? PPS will be sending information to you soon. Read more at this link.
There's lots more to celebrate in the land of Forest Park; read on below.
Warmly,
Lisa Newlyn, Principal

TONIGHT 9/23 at 6pm - come support FPE at the PPS Board Meeting!
501 N Dixon St, Portland, OR 97227-1804
We'll be presenting our concerns about the portables to the PPS board. Take a moment and read our Letter to the Board.
Our goal is the get on the 2020 bond to get funding for a classroom addition to house all our student population. FPE 10 classrooms in 5 portables, more portables than any other PPS school. Our portables present health and safety issues that do not exist in a permanent structure.
Public comments are from 6-6:30 so please make sure to be on time!
