On the night of 24 September the winners of the Nordisk Panorama Awards 2019 were announced. The Awards Gala took place at Malmö Old City Hall and marked the end of the fantastic Nordisk Panorama Film Festival 2019.
For six days the Jury Members and the local audiences have selected the best new Nordic documentaries and short films, from 55 selected films, divided into four categories.
Best Nordic Documentary
Winner
Once Aurora by Stian Servoss & Benjamin Langeland (Norway), 2019, 71 min.
Motivation
For its strong cinematic power, through its cinematography, sound and editing, this colorful portait of an artist as a young woman brings us to a new dawn.
Honourable Mention
Scheme Birds by Ellen Fiske & Ellinor Hallin (Sweden), 2019, 90 min.
Motivation
In the competition for Best Nordic Documentary we would like to give a special mention to a film that had incredible access to a story whose real narrative is bigger than life.

Best Nordic Short Film

Sorry, not sorry by Julia Thelin (Sweden), 2019, 15 min
Motivation
A girl is on the way home after a party when she meets a group of guys in a boat in trouble. She helps them, but is taken on a nocturnal ride against her will. The script is multilayered with ambivalence and tension and and the film explores power structures on both a concrete and political level.
Honourable Mention 1
The Stroker by Pilvi Takala (Finland, UK), 2019, 16 min
The film depict the discomfort of superficial intimacy when a strange concept is introduced in the workplace. A simple gesture provokes different reactions and behaviours. We appreciate the directors conceptual and humorous approach.
Honourable Mention 2
No Ill Will by Andrias Høgenni (Denmark), 2018, 22 min
The jury would like to give a Honourable Mention to a film that touched us deeply with the description of the negative potential of social media. It shows how difficult it can be to see whats really going inside each individual. We also want to applaud the actresses for their authentic performances.

The award goes to the director(s) of the film.

This film is a firmly and skillfully crafted vision presenting a sincere and entertaining film about the importance of believing in yourself and accepting who you are in a world full of adversaries. A life liberation project which liberates us all!
Winner New Nordic Voice Short
She-Pack by Fanny Ovesen (Norway), 2018, 19 min
Motivation
This film that impressed the jury with its daring script, believable acting and level of energy. The film is an exploration of womanhood; a spiraling journey to the dark side of human nature, this time in the shape of underage girls.

City of Malmö’s Audience Award
Winner
Humanity on Trial by Jonas Bruun (Denmark), 2019, 73 min
Salam, a young Dane, cannot erase the image of a lifeless child on a European beach and decides to go and help other children and their families. On the Greek island of Lesbos, he starts an NGO and works tirelessly for months, saving countless lives. But the police charge him and four others with people smuggling and they’re thrown into jail. The others are released after two nights but because he was in charge, Salam must put up bail of €10,000 and is forbidden to leave Greece.

Young Nordic – Children’s Choice Award
The Evil Principal (Den onde Rektor Svint og jakten på den tapte kunnskapen) by Ida Hansen Eldøen 2019, 14 min, (Norway)
Principal Svint is a vindictive madman rampaging through middle schools in Trøndelag, Norway. He steals knowledge and joy from teachers. Anna and the other children fight to stop Svint and release the stolen knowledge and joy from his life-sucking machine.

The films in the Young Nordics programme compete for the love of our most critical audience. We ask the youngest viewers to tell us which film they liked the best and we’ll award the winner with a Children’s Choice Award, as well as an invitation to attend next year’s festival.

ABOUT NORDISK PANORAMA FILM FESTIVAL
Nordisk Panorama Film Festival 2019 is taking place in Malmö, Sweden, 19-24 September. The festival is the biggest film festival for Nordic documentary and short films, and provides a unique opportunity to benchmark the Nordic short and documentary film scene, network with the Nordic film industry, watch films made by the most recognized Nordic film directors and to discover new promising and aspiring Nordic talents.
The annual Nordisk Panorama Film Festival is organized by Nordisk Panorama with generous support from the City of Malmö, Film i Skåne and Region Skåne. Since 2013, the festival has been permanently located in Malmö and this year it celebrates its 30th anniversary.
Hussain Currimbhoy is this year’s guest documentary programmer together with associate programmer Nadia Abraham, Festival Director, Faroe Islands International Minority Film Festival. Hussain is Artistic Director of The Red Sea Film Festival in Jeddah and previously worked as programmer at the Sundance Film Festival. Programmer for Short Film is Sam Groves, he is also Programmer at the Flatpack Festival in Birmingham.
