1. OSA Coaching Scholar

The 2019/20 OSA Coaching Scholar is Evelin Brautigam from USA. She arrived in early September, so many of you may have met here at events in the last couple of weeks. Evalin is running for the Southern Arrows at the upcoming Australian Championships Carnival in NSW and Victoria

As in previous years OSA would like to provide her with a car to use for organising and running training and other activities around Adelaide, so we need our members help. If you have a car that will be available for some or all of that period, can you please notify Bridget Anderson (bigalo101@hotmail.com) and Robin Uppill (aruppill@chariot.net.au). OSA will contribute to car registration and 3rd party/property insurance and car servicing for any period for which the car is provided.

2. SI Cards for Sale

Robin Uppill has SI Card 8 – which are suitable for 95% of orienteers in SA.
These cost $45 and come in a range of colours.

Contact Robin on aruppill@chariot.net.au if you would like to purchase one.

3. Orienteering SA Clothing

Robin Uppill has a few pairs of pants and a few other items (mainly very small).

A few people have requested purchasing jackets and shirts. If we have sufficient interest a new order could be placed.  Costs are likely to be more than previously, partly because of the lower $AUS.

Contact Robin with your requirements on aruppill@chariot.net.au if you are interested. A sizing chart can be provided.

4. SEPTEMBER NEWSLETTER UPDATED WITH MORE VIDEO LINKS

The September newsletter has been updated with more links to championship videos. The latest update has links to all Junior World Orienteering Championship official videos. This includes Sprint, Middle Final, Long Final and Relay event videos as well as shorter overview videos. Click here to go to the latest newsletter, and then click "JWOC highlights" to see the video update at the end of the article.

If you missed it first time around, the newsletter contains reports on SA's orienteers' experiences in New Zealand, Spain, France, Scotland, in the Junior World Orienteering Championships in Denmark, in the World Orienteering Championships in Norway, and the World Masters Orienteering Championships in Latvia. Locally, there are articles on the Eyre Peninsula relays, the Burra weekend, and on the travels of a globe-trotting orienteer who calls SA home (when he's here!). The newsletter also now includes links to some amazing full screen, high resolution video of the World Orienteering Championships, with commentary, live route tracking and analysis, maps, competitors in the forest, prize-giving ceremonies, and of the final day's weather at the relays! You'll also catch a glimpse of an SA competitor and spectator ... or two.

5.  The 2019 Australian MTBO Champs
The next event you should enter
Well the next MTBO event we want YOU ALL to be involved with is the Australian Championships to be held in Maryborough, Victoria from 25-27 October.
We are hoping that everyone one of our regular, and not so regular riders, will come along and join us all, for at least one of the races. A number of people have been working very hard for a couple of years to bring some fantastic events and new maps to this showcase of Australian Mountain Bike Orienteering.
Don't let the fact that this is an Australian Championship put you off. All of the map areas are easy riding with gentle undulations, but a very good network of tracks to provide a challenge and keep you on your toes. These events are for everyone at any level and any age. If you think your age class course is too long, you can ride a recreational class in the course that suits best. There are two e-Bike classes to choose from as well.
There will be FOUR championship events contested over 3 daysplus a training event, the Championships Dinner to be held at the iconic Maryborough Station, and an IOF run MTBO Workshop for Organisers, Course setters and Controllers. This year also sees the first Australian Mass Start Championship, so make sure you book this weekend, including the Friday, to be part of this fantastic carnival of MTBO.
The Championships are also a round of the World Masters Series, the final round of the National MTBO Series and an Australia-New Zealand Challenge. All good reasons to be part of something very special.

Entries are coming along well with a large contingent of New Zealanders coming over, plus a handful of riders from Europe but please make sure you get your entry in soon.
The first 100 entries will receive a souvenir drawstring backpack courtesy of our major sponsor Wildfire Sports.
For all of the latest information, visit www.ausmtbochamps.com and download Bulletin 2.  Enter on Eventor.

SA ENTRANTS – Kay Haarsma will be running an indoor training session for this – showing previous / similar maps & discussing route choices etc.
Contact Kay on kayhaarsma@hotmail.com to let her know you are interested.

6. Melbourne City Race
The first down under City Race takes off in Melbourne in October, and online entry via Eventor is now open!  Grab a great package deal by entering all three races online, for just $37.  Our three venues are Edgewater, Kensington and Docklands – all within easy reach! Details at www.melbournecityrace.com.au
  • On Friday Oct 11, experience Melbourne’s coolest suburb, Footscray (as named by Time Out magazine). For Sprint Into Spring Race 1, the updated and extended Edgewater map takes in the VU campus, Footscray Park, the river’s edge, and the urban streets.
  • On Saturday afternoon Oct 12, SIS Race 2 heads to Kensington, an area that’s been crying out to be sprinted on!  It’s a brand new map featuring all that this amazing venue has to offer.
  • Then on Sunday morning Oct 13, don’t miss the chance to race on our shiny new Docklands map, in the first ever Melbourne City Race!  You’ll see the city in a whole new way, as you race from Docklands Park.
Choose your own course and start time at all three events; and bring your SIAC stick, as SI Air will be enabled.

Melbourne City Race is the choice of Champions – Junior World Sprint Champ Aston Key is racing, along with World Masters gold medallists Warren and Tash, and British superstar Peter Hodkinson. We also have competitors from New Zealand, the UK, Switzerland, and all over Australia, as well as a strong local contingent.  Don’t miss out on your chance!  Online entry closes on TUESDAY OCTOBER 8.
We strongly recommend that you enter all three races online via Eventor – why?

  • Save time – no messing around with payment at Registration
  • Win big – be in the spot prize draw on Sunday!  Look out for more news on prizes next week!!
