LRT LAUNCH!!!
We finally did it Ottawa! September 14th marked a momentous day in the City of Ottawa as we finally launched light rail. This new transit system is going to be a game changer for not only the residents of Beacon Hill-Cyrville, but the entire city. I was out with my staff on launch day handing out commemorative pins and greeting many excited transit users. I’m proud to finally have this system up and running; but our work isn’t done yet as this is just a precursor to the big game changer…Phase 2!

LOOKING AHEAD TO THE MONTREAL ROAD LRT STATION
With the exciting launch of LRT, I know many of us are now looking forward to Phase 2! While it’s still a few years away I wanted to look ahead to an exciting addition coming in the next phase; the new Montreal Road LRT station. This is going to be an amazing hub for transit in Beacon Hill providing many residents a crucial link to the rest of the city. My office has received many inquiries to how the station will look and function so I’ve put together a nice package on my website that you can view here.

OC TRANSPO SERVICE CHANGE
As our friends at OC Transpo have been saying there’s a #ReallyBigServiceChange coming to our transit system. Many bus routes in the city are changing on October 6th to better service O-Train Line 1. Please check out this link from OC Transpo to learn more and see how your commute might change.

PINEVIEW GETS A CROSSWALK AND MORE POLICE
It's finally here! Residents in Pineview have been waiting a long time but they now have safer pedestrian access to St. John Paul II. The crosswalk across the school was finally completed in late September and we decided to get out early to check it out. Not that the students would know who the Beatles are, but Dave Williams from the Pineview Community Association Group and I got to do our 'Abbey road' impression! Also, there’s increased police coming to the community to monitor the roads and make sure people slow down!

JASMINE CLEANING UP THE CAPITAL
The fine folks from the Beacon Hill Community Association have organized a cleaning the capital event at Jasmine Park on Sunday, October 6th from 1pm to 3pm. IF you’re concerned about garbage in the neighborhood or just want to help with come clean up, you’re invited to take part! Garbage bags and some gloves will be available, but you are encouraged to bring your own gloves if you can. See you there!

ALL CANDIDATES DEBATE IN BEACON HILL-CYRVILLE
The federal election is just a few weeks away and our local community associations want to help get you informed. The Beacon Hill Community Association, Rothwell Heights Community Interest Group, and Pineview Community Association have partnered to host the debate in our riding. The debate is at 7pm on October 16th in the Colonel By Cafetorium. If you’re interested in learning more about each candidates’ platforms and ideas this could be a great opportunity for you.

COLONEL BY STUDENT SINGS AT COUNCIL
I want to take this opportunity to thank Elina Ellis from Colonel By Secondary School for dropping by Council chambers on September 25th to sing O Canada. Elina is a grade 9 student currently enrolled in the International Baccalaureate program. She absolutely rocked it and we can’t wait to see what her future holds!

CONTINUING OUR SUPPORT FOR THE GIANTS
I was so thrilled earlier this month to present another donation to the North Gloucester Giants football club. This team is always super involved in the ward with volunteering and other community service efforts. If you haven’t gone out and checked out one of their games please do so, it’s a great time!

BLC ADDS A NEW OUTDOOR STRUCTURE
In conjunction with the City, the Beacon Learning Centre was able to open a brand-new outdoor structure in their yard. This new structure is going to give the kids a new place to play and provide them with some great learning opportunities that the staff are excited to take advantage of. So many of our kids have called the BLC home growing up and I am always happy to support them in their endeavors!

CELEBRATING FRANCO ONTARIAN DAY
I had the pleasure of joining his worship Mayor Watson and other dignitaries to mark Franco-Ontarian day on September 25th. Our francophone community has and continues to contribute so much to our city and I’m proud we can take a day to celebrate them. Not only did we raise the Franco-Ontarian flag outside City Hall, but we paid a visit to Séraphin-Marion to celebrate the day with the future of our Francophone community.

UPCOMING EVENTS AT THE GLOUCESTER 50+ CENTRE
Our friends at the Gloucester 50+ Centre asked me to pass along some events they have coming up.
Open House and Information Fair on Wednesday October 23, 2019 from 9 am to 1 pm
The Information Fair will be a gathering of both for profit and not for profit community agencies that are of interest to adults 50+. There will be coffee and muffins available compliments of our office. They also have door prizes! Please RSVP by calling the centre at (613) 749-1974.
Tinsel Tea and Bazaar on Saturday November 2, 2019 from 10 am to 2 pm
The tea room will be offering a tea plate of assorted sandwiches and homemade desserts. Try your luck at the straw draw and pick up treasures like: books, jewelry, homemade baking, quilting, arts, and more!

MISE EN SERVICE DU TRAIN LÉGER!!!
C’est chose faite à Ottawa! Le 14 septembre 2019, jour où le train léger a enfin été lancé, passera à l’histoire. Ce nouveau réseau de transport en commun changera la donne non seulement pour les résidents de Beacon Hill–Cyrville, mais aussi pour ceux de toute la ville. Mon équipe et moi étions sur le terrain pour distribuer des épinglettes souvenirs et saluer de nombreux passagers ravis. Si je suis très fier de voir le train léger enfin inauguré, notre travail est loin d’être terminé, puisque nous n’en sommes qu’au début d’un grand projet qui viendra véritablement tout changer avec l’Étape 2!

EN AVANT AVEC LA STATION DU CHEMIN MONTRÉAL DU TRAIN LÉGER
Avec l’effervescence entourant le lancement du train léger, je sais que nombre d’entre nous sont impatients de voir l’Étape 2 prendre les rails. Même si nous devrons patienter encore quelques années, j’aimerais tout de même même parler d’une facette enthousiasmante de ce prochain volet : la station du Chemin Montréal. Cette station, fantastique carrefour pour le transport en commun à Beacon Hill, offrira à de nombreux résidents un lien important vers les autres quartiers. Mon bureau a reçu beaucoup de demandes de renseignements quant à la conception et au fonctionnement de cette station, j’ai donc déposé sur mon site Web de l’information fort utile.

MODIFICATION DES SERVICES À OC TRANSPO
Comme l’ont mentionné nos amis d’OC Transpo, c’est à un #ToutNouveauRéseau que nous pouvons nous attendre. De nombreux circuits d’autobus de la ville seront modifiés dès le 6 octobre pour mieux desservir la Ligne 1 de l’O-Train. Je vous invite à consulter cette page d’OC Transpo pour savoir quels seront les effets de ces changements sur votre trajet.

PINEVIEW OBTIENT UN PASSAGE POUR PIÉTONS ET PLUS DE POLICIERS
Il est enfin là ! Les résidents de Pineview attendent depuis longtemps, mais ils ont maintenant un accès piétonnier plus sécuritaire à Saint-Jean-Paul II. Le passage pour piétons à travers l'école a finalement été complété à la fin de septembre et nous avons décidé de sortir tôt pour vérifier. Non pas que les élèves sauraient qui sont les Beatles, mais Dave Williams du Pineview Community Association Group et moi avons eu l'occasion de faire notre impression sur la route Abbey ! De plus, il y a de plus en plus de policiers qui viennent dans la communauté pour surveiller les routes et s'assurer que les gens ralentissent !

LE GRAND MÉNAGE DE LA CAPITALE A JASMINE
Les gens de l'Association communautaire de Beacon Hill ont organisé une activité de nettoyage du parc Jasmine, le dimanche 6 octobre, de 13 h à 15 h. Si vous vous préoccupez des ordures dans le quartier ou si vous voulez simplement aider à nettoyer, nous vous invitons à y participer ! Des sacs poubelles et des gants seront disponibles, mais nous vous encourageons à apporter vos propres gants si vous le pouvez. On se voit là-bas !

DÉBAT DES CANDIDATS À BEACON HILL-CYRVILLE
L'élection fédérale est dans quelques semaines et nos associations communautaires locales veulent vous aider à vous informer. L'Association Communautaire Beacon Hill, le Groupe d'Intérêt Communautaire de Rothwell Heights et l'Association Communautaire de Pineview se sont associés pour tenir le débat dans notre quartier. Le débat est à 19h le 16 octobre au Cafetorium Colonel By. Si vous souhaitez en savoir plus sur les plates-formes et les idées de chacun des candidats, cela pourrait être une excellente occasion pour vous.

UNE ÉLÈVE DE COLONEL BY CHANTE POUR LE CONSEIL
J’aimerais profiter de l’occasion pour remercier Elina Ellis, de la Colonel By Secondary School, qui est venue chanter l’Ô Canada devant la salle du Conseil, le 25 septembre dernier. Elina, une élève de 9e année inscrite au Baccalauréat International, a été sensationnelle. Nous sommes impatients de voir ce que l’avenir lui réserve!

NOUS MAINTENONS NOTRE APPUI ENVERS LES GIANTS
J’ai été très content, plus tôt ce mois-ci, de faire un nouveau don aux Giants, l’équipe de football de North Gloucester. Cette équipe participe toujours activement aux activités du quartier, qu’il s’agisse de bénévolat ou d’autres services à la collectivité. Si vous n’avez jamais assisté à une de leurs parties, allez-y : le plaisir est garanti!

UNE NOUVELLE STRUCTURE EXTÉRIEURE POUR LE CENTRE D’APPRENTISSAGE DE BEACON
Grâce à la collaboration de la Ville, le Centre d’apprentissage de Beacon a pu installer une toute nouvelle structure de jeu dans son espace extérieur. Celle-ci multipliera les possibilités de jeu des enfants et leur offrira de toutes nouvelles occasions d’apprentissage que le personnel a hâte d’exploiter. Ce centre est un lieu où d’innombrables d’enfants du quartier ont grandi, et c’est toujours avec plaisir que j’appuie leurs efforts!

CÉLÉBRATION DU JOUR DES FRANCO-ONTARIENS ET DES FRANCO-ONTARIENNES
J’ai eu la chance de me joindre à Son Honneur Jim Watson, ainsi qu’à d’autres dignitaires pour souligner le Jour des Franco-Ontariens et des Franco-Ontariennes, le 25 septembre dernier. C’est pour moi une source de fierté de voir que nous prenons une journée pour honorer la contribution de la communauté francophone d’Ottawa, qui a toujours été très riche et qui continue de l’être. Non seulement avons-nous levé le drapeau franco-ontarien devant l’hôtel de ville, nous avons aussi visité l’école Séraphin-Marion pour souligner cette journée avec les acteurs de la communauté franco-ontarienne de demain.

PROCHAINS ÉVÉNEMENTS DU GLOUCESTER 50+ CENTRE
Nos amis du Gloucester 50+ Centre m’ont demandé de présenter leurs prochains événements.
Ils organisent donc une journée portes ouvertes et une foire de l’information qui aura lieu le mercredi 23 octobre 2019, de 9 h à 13 h. Des organismes communautaires (à but lucratif et non lucratif) dont les activités s’adressent aux 50 ans et plus seront de la partie. Il y aura du café et des muffins, gracieuseté de notre bureau, ainsi que des prix de présence! Veuillez appeler au centre (6137491974) pour confirmer votre présence.
Il y aura un « thé scintillant » et un bazar le samedi 2 novembre 2019, de 10 h à 14 h. On proposera au salon de thé une assiette de sandwiches assortis et de desserts maison. Tentez votre chance au jeu de la courte paille et rentrez à la maison avec toutes sortes de trésors : livres, bijoux, délices préparés à la main, courtepointes, articles artisanaux, etc.
